If you look around the internet, you'll see a bunch of people writing novels this month. And talking about it a lot.

It's here! National Novel Writing Month! I'll be digging in to focus on my novel, like so many others, but I'll be tweaking the system to make it my own.
I hand-write my first drafts, while most NaNo participants will be using computer. I also don't expect to be tweeting or socially networking with the other NaNo peeps.
The beauty of the thing is the intention and knowing others share that intention.

I like the invitation here. Not everyone has to "win" - many of us set different word count goals or define the outcome differently.
The point is, at the end of the month, a writer can have a motherlode of written raw material to work with.
