What happens when society rejects you for who you are? For Hanabi, a Black queer performer in Paris, the ballroom scene became more than a place to dance – it became family. The ballroom community was created in New York in the late 1960s by queer, Black and Latino people as a space of radical belonging – free from racism and hostility. Today, it has become a global movement.
We follow Hanabi through the heart of Paris's ballroom scene – exploring identity, chosen family, Black culture, LGBTQ+ pride, voguing and the power of community.
