CD - The causes, impacts and responses to an atmospheric or hydrological hazard.
Flood defences that have been built following the 1953 floods include the Thames Barrier in the Thames Estuary. The barrier is second largest tidal barrier in the World, after the Oosterhelderering Barrier in the Netherlands (which was also built in response to the 1953 floods). The barrier protects central London and the surrounding communities from exceptionally high tides and storm surges like the one experienced in 1953.
