Film editing can be many things: subtle or in your face, downtempo or high octane. Not only is the editing in Whiplash all of those things and then some, but it won an Oscar for it.

There’s no doubt about it; vintage lenses have made a huge resurgence in the motion picture world. It’s not a fad that I have a solid explanation for. Perhaps it’s the fault of modern cameras being so crisp and sharp, a rather clinical look in a world of romance and beauty.

It is a truism that, "we tell ourselves stories in order to live." But, it is remarkable what a human characteristic the drive for narrative is. What purpose does it serve? No matter, it's pretty much like the opposable thumb at this point, and we've been telling stories since we learned how to communicate; the weirdest thing, perhaps, is that the experiences of everyone who has ever lived and died in the history of the world are both altogether unique and so similar that we can have stories to

The world of comics has always been full of a dramatic array of colors! Notice over time how the color schemes used to be quite bright on spandex outfits, where the more pop culture hero series have taken them to a darker shade with added grit, grime and texture.

This is a guest post from Misha Tenenbaum, who went on an interesting journey from dreaming of moving to Los Angeles to become an editor to actually going through that experience and learning from the trenches, ultimately taking a path he hadn’t foreseen. Misha’s story is emblematic of this moment in time where we confront our theorized aspirations with real life and discover what we want, and what that implies, work wise.

Flying drones is a joy, and if I can use them in my work, legality permitting, I will if I feel it can add something and not get in the way. Like most specialty gear, moderation is key. I haven’t put out an entirely drone shot piece of work since that Thailand film. This is the first thing since then really, not really comparable, and it’s only because the P3 is new and I am testing it out.

Luckily, Adobe has recently debuted their new Morph Cut tool in Premiere Pro CC to help filmmakers fix this sometimes unavoidable problem.
