A team from the UK used data from the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) to apply an alternative approach to the study of child language development. Quantile Analysis revealed that the association between factors such as poverty, early reading and TV and the outcome of language development is not equal across the population.

Children born to older mothers are more likely to do better in intelligence tests than those born to younger women, new research has found. Children born in 1970 to mothers aged 25 to 29 were more likely to perform better in tests of cognitive ability than those born to mothers who were 10-years older.

Almost one in four teenage girls suffer from depression, a new study shows, in what experts have described as an “alarming” discovery. Researchers from the UCL (University College London) Institute of Education and the University of Liverpool found that nearly a quarter (24 per cent) of 14-year-old girls and nine per cent of boys the same age are depressed.
