Hiking your way to the top of a volcano serves a reminder that the earth is as alive from the inside as it is out; that it’s not just rock, sand, grass and water, and that its spewing lava and boiling core demands the utmost respect.

"During our travels in Nicaragua we joined a trek to Volcano El Hoyo, above is a picture of where we put our tent. The view was simply amazing. When it comes to cheap holiday accommodation, this particular location certainly earned its value ten times over"

"We decided to start off our first trip to Argentina “Carmen and Andy style” with a few days of trekking in southern Patagonia! After riding on five planes, 2 taxis, a van, and a bus we arrived 7,000 miles from Grand Rapids, MI in El Chaltén, a tiny town at the 49th parallel nestled just inside the Los Glaciares National Park on the border of southern Chile. For the North American folks, we are as far south as Vancouver, B.C is north. However, the only land mass below us is Antarctica. We are even further south than the southern island of New Zealand."

"The Railway Segment from Sakleshpur to Kukke Subramanya road junction is known as green route trek and very popular amongst the trekkers in Western Ghats. The length of the trek is some 52 km which comprises 58 tunnels, 109 bridges and about 25 waterfalls. The railway track was closed down in 1996 for converting it to broad gauge from meter gauge."

"Devaria Lake trek turned out to be my start of a journey for the Ultimate Himalayan experience . One night on the shore of the lake gave me a yearful of piece but doubled my hunger for Himalayas. Here are the details of the trek as per my knowledge which might help you in some ways if you decide to visit this place."

"Maybe because I grew up in Switzerland, I can’t help feeling touched every time I see a bucolic landscape in the mountains. As in what is perhaps a classic ‘cliché’ , bucolic to me has to do with green grass, cows and peaks, like in the beautiful Dolomites."

"Ukrainian Carpathian mountains are much less explored than their Slovakian, Polish or even Romanian counterparts. Add to that maps in Cyrillic and barely marked routes, and you are up for a true adventure!"

"The USA is an absolute dream for hikers, with its massively diverse scenery meaning there is something to suit all tastes, and beautiful weather in which to enjoy it. With so much gorgeous scenery on offer it can be difficult to narrow down the options as to where exactly to hike, but when it comes to quality of trails, it is extremely hard to beat the famous Rocky Mountains."

"Hiking through the volcanic landscape of Mt. Pinatubo is perhaps the closest thing you can have in experiencing a Tolkienesque world. With unique and stunning scenery of sculpted sandstone and long winding streams, you'll be in for an interesting trek."

The magnificent Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia) lies in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan on the Jinsha River. Yunnan is diverse, the southern region being more tropical and akin to the climate of Southeast Asia (it borders Burma/Myanmar). Northern Yunnan, where the gorge is located, is renowned for its mountainous countryside that more closely resembles the landscapes of Tibet.

The Inca built many of these trails 500 years ago, and they’re still the only way to reach all of our destinations—Machu Picchu and also a few seldom visited yet equally impressive Inca sites, such as Choquequirao; the water shrine Picha Unuyoc; and Vilcabamba, also called Espíritu Pampa, the last city of the Inca.

"We are in Lhasa, the largest city in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Our ten-day visit to this part of the world has been fascinating from both a cultural and natural perspective. However, it is what happened leading up to our arrival and what took place while we have been here, that makes us, four months into our expedition, feel very blessed."

"Le Valais, malgré son nom qui sonne comme un vieux duché de France, est en Suisse et au cœur même du massif Alpin. Il est ainsi le témoin de l’histoire des Alpes et au fil du temps il a vu les hommes le sillonner. Les voies qui permettaient de traverser le vieux continent n‘étaient pas nombreuses, il fallait soit éviter les sommets enneigés en les contournant, soit traverser la montagne par son centre."

"Known as the "End of the Earth," Patagonia reigns as one of the best backdrops for adventurous trekking routes and expeditions. Between Torres del Paine National Park and Monte Fitz Roy, the area located at the southern end of South America offers everything from green alpine meadows to glacier fields stretching as far as the eye can see."

"Although it’s something of a brave decision to take, traveling solo is both an exciting and liberating experience that allows us to learn more about the world at our own pace. Mark Twain once said, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness.” This is even more so for the solo traveler who is free to see the world through his or her own purely subjective prism, without the opinions and influence of friends and family."
