2000 Kilometers by Skateboard in Morocco with Long Treks on Skate Decks | Trekking | Scoop.it
If your next journey had to be without a motor, what would you choose? A longboard probably didn’t come to mind.

Traversing the High Atlas Mountains in early 2010, you would have found three very dirty individuals, pushing incredibly high-tech skateboards. Those three guys would have been Paul Kent, Adam Colton, and this guy, Aaron Enevoldsen. Under the name Long Treks on Skate Decks, we’ve pioneered long-distance skateboarding combined with documentary filmmaking.

The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu: A photo essay

The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu: A photo essay | Trekking | Scoop.it
I’ve been to Machu Picchu on three separate occasions (don’t hate the player, hate the game), and each time I’ve visited the place I have arrived by a different means of arrival. I rode the train once, hiked the classic Inca Trail another time, but the first time I visited was maybe the most special. We hiked an alternative route known as the Lares Community Trek which takes you off the beaten track and through some spectacular scenery. I hiked with some great people, and we ended up being the first into the site of Machu Picchu on the day we arrived. Having Machu Picchu all to yourselves is like no other experience that you could ever have. The Lares trek takes you away from the over hiked Inca Trail and through some interesting scenery, you will also see how the very rural people live in this part of Peru as you will stop by some houses where herding sheep and llamas are the main trade. I have compiled a photo essay from my trek to Machu Picchu via the Lares Trek, I hope you enjoy it.

Celestial Trek - Kazakhstan

Celestial Trek - Kazakhstan | Trekking | Scoop.it
I went on a trekking holiday to Kazakhstan, for the first time recently which was a truly amazing adventure. The group ended up on a glacier in Kyrgyzstan and, during the journey, a 72-year-old client and I ended up stark naked having a bath in a glacial river. We were rosy-cheeked at tea time! The trek is not for the faint hearted but I figured, if he could do it, I could. Surprisingly, no-one one else shared my sentiment!

The Lowdown on Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

The Lowdown on Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu | Trekking | Scoop.it
When initially planning our RTW trip, we had a few must-sees and do’s that became the cornerstones of the trip. Hiking the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was one of the top things on that list. As with anything that you hype up in your head before doing or seeing it, the chance for disappointment is there. I am happy to say that even though we built up the Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu to epic proportions, not only did it not disappoint, but it exceeded our mammoth expectations. The hike to and payoff of Machu Picchu itself were something that dreams are made of, and I can’t stress enough what a magical experience it was. It truly is something I will remember for the rest of my life.

Trekking New Zealand: The South Island Beyond the Great Walks | Trekking | Scoop.it
New Zealand has nine designated Great Walks — networks of trails and backcountry huts — six of which are on the South Island. While these tracks live up to the title, lesser-known walks on the island are just as pretty, cost less, and see smaller crowds.

One Long Weekend: Trekking to the Roof of the World

One Long Weekend: Trekking to the Roof of the World | Trekking | Scoop.it
Where do I begin? How does anyone adequately sum up 5 weeks spent amongst some of the most majestic mountain scenery on earth? In mid-October, Rachel, Betsy, and I departed Kathmandu, and after 8 stomach churning hours aboard a bus in the Himalayan foothills we arrived in the market town of Jiri. From there it was our legs and lung capacity guiding us higher and higher toward the roof of the world, Sagarmatha (aka Chomolungma in Tibetan, Everest in English).

Morocco is blessed with some of the world’s most dramatic and beautiful mountains, many of which only see a handful of travellers every year; others remain totally unexplored by foreigners. Morocco’s broad range of climates is also a blessing for trekkers. Whichever you choose, trekking is often the highlight of any visit to Morocco.

Trekking to Active Volcano Santiaguito in Guatemala | Trekking | Scoop.it
Did I really just complete a 2 day trek and camp on an active, erupting volcano? Volcano Santiaguito explodes with ash, rocks, and sometimes lava once every few hours. We had the best (and most dangerous) seat in the house. Great pics & story!

El Chalten Pictures - Patagonia

El Chalten Pictures - Patagonia | Trekking | Scoop.it
There has been oodles and oodles of information lately about hiking in and around El Chalten in the southern Argentina section of Patagonia. A guide to trekking the region and individual posts about each of the three main hikes we did (Lago and Glacier Torres, Lago and Glacier Piedras Blancas, and Laguna de los Tres) had a lot of information and pictures.

But judging by all the comments received, it seems like it would be a good idea to do an all pictures post of our favorite area in all of Patagonia. So here’s our favorites that didn’t make the cut. Enjoy!
