"We often think a deadline can help us shake off inertia and focus on getting a job done. But the brain research suggests precisely the opposite is true. A deadline, instead, more often limits our thinking and can lead to much worse decision making."

Most of us assume that when we try to solve problems, we're drawing on the logical parts of our brains. But, in fact, great strategists seem to draw on the emotional and intuitive parts of their brain much more.

Good WSJ article on leadership and decision-making: "Take much of what you know about how executives make decisions. Now, forget it." New brain research shows most of what we thought we know about executive decision making is wrong

This a wonderful interview, once you get to it. The introduction is long but you can skip ahead around 2:30 to get to the interview. I truly admire Dr. Lipman-Blumen and totally agree with her views on what the media causes and her perspective on why toxic leaders get ahead. One of my favorite parts is when she asks the audience how many of them have experienced a toxic leader and the majority of the audiences raises the hands. Long but worth the time!

While people ask about tactical specific leading tools is really comes down to this quote for the article: "The smallest things that leaders choose to do (but do not have to) not only inspire followers, they re-inspire them again and again"

Limit noise, don't play safe, communicate and have good conversations and believe that people want to be great are great take aways. In the end its how you apply a theory to your leadership that helps you.

Transformational leaders: 1. Create a vision. 2. “Walk the talk." 3. Communicate using a frame of reference the audience can understand. 4. Build commitment to the vision.

We live and work in a world that is an integrated entity, increasingly influenced by external cultural factors. For those in leadership positions it is now not only necessary to have a high IQ and EQ (emotional intelligence), but strong Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is also increasingly regarded as a necessary skill to succeed in today's global business community.
