Study shows lakes have major impact on economy

Burnet County commissioners and other Highland Lakes stakeholders Tuesday were briefed on the findings and results of a county-commissioned economic impact study and were told there is hard data that shows lake fluctuations, especially long-term droughts, have tremendous negative consequences for Burnet and Llano counties.

'Little' lake maintains a lot of local interest

The old joke about wanna-be football players (“He’s not very big, but he makes up for it by being slow”) can be applied to the proposed Lake Columbia.When compared to some Texas Lakes, Lake Columbia, if it’s ever built, will not be large. It will have about 95 miles of shoreline and a volume of 195,000 acre feet. If and when constructed, an earthen-style dam (with above-grade fill) will be 6,800 feet long and just under 70 feet high.

Keep Lewisville Beautiful postpones trash bash

Due to safety concerns, Keep Lewisville Beautiful has postponed its annual Trinity Trash Bash clean up.  The event was originally scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday; it will now be held at the same time Nov. 17. KLB made the decision to postpone the event because of West Nile virus concerns.
