It is certain now, our family is going to South Africa for nine days during our Spring Break next year to accompany a small tour group led by my mother-in-law (who owns a small travel company in Brazil). She is sponsoring the trip for K & I because we will be translators/interpreters to the group on the tours we do there (last year K's brother "K2" and his wife did that too).

I think that having a good knowledge of French is very useful for many African countries
especially in North Africa and West and Central Africa too.

Like Spanish is useful for Central and South America.French is essential in many African
states and serves as a lingua franca too.Especially in the North African countries.

The government, after almost six years since the passage of the Disability Law, has not yet been able to meet the needs of People with Disability (PWD), even though the law was meant to give them a positive lifestyle. Indeed, the government is doing its best to make the country a better place for PWDs, unfortunately, no matter how hard it tries, it does not seem to be reaching its target.

Recently, the First Deputy Premier and Minister of East African Affairs, Eriya Kategaya, issued a directive to the effect that by the beginning of next year, Kiswahili, as a language, be taught and examined compulsorily in schools in Uganda, right from primary level.

I believe that this initiative has been long overdue. The promotion of the Kiswahili language will not be limited to simply its usage, but it will also help the East African Community (EAC) that was revived in 1999 to co-operate in trade, politics, social, media, education systems, among others, and it will fully play its role as the regional lingua franca.

PROFESSOR Chinua Achebe was not the first prominent Nigerian (nor the only one) to reject the now controversial National Honours.

He must, however, be among the very few who said no to it twice when the same category – Commander of the Federal Republic, CFR, the third highest of the lot – was offered by two different regimes. Incidentally, he cited the same problems as his reasons.
