There’s a project going on in Australia that is the largest online digital storytelling project in the country. The project invites people to tell stories about what has made the arts special to them and how they’ve been touched by the arts. They tell their stories through audio, video and writing. The cool thing about it is, anyone in Australia can do it. As of today, it has several thousand entries. The project was launched in July of 2010 and the results are aggregated into a into a giant, growing testimonial page with search-able contents by genre. This website is called “What Makes Me”. There are three different sections: What Makes Me, What Makes You, What Makes Us. Each person claims...

This is the idea : I don't want to buy new stuff all the time. I want to hack the stuff i already have so it works better for me (Jane, product designer on RCA London). So she phoned some clever materials scientists called Ian and Steve and together they invented an interesting new material for hacking things better. It's called sugru and is a little bit brilliant. Sugru can help you dramatically prolong your life of your stuff. By applying, in some cases, even a teeny tiny bit to your things, you get to keep them for much longer and decrease your impact on our wee world. Repair with gusto! Clever Scientists have been working on sugru for over 5 years to give it as many great...

Click on the Technical's Details image to zoom in 5 Reasons the Amazon Kindle beats the iPad : The Kindle Fire is burning up the charts. Purported pre - sales of the newly announced Kindle Fire by Amazon suggest the tablet is on track to outsell the iPad in first - month sales. If accurate, that’s big -- really big. So far, competing brands have done nothing to rival Apple’s splash nor dominance of the growing tablet market. The Fire is the first real competitor. Apple iPad sales are as brisk as ever, of course, but there’s plenty of reason for the excitement surrounding the all - new, color screen, touch - enabled Kindle Fire. To borrow an Apple word, it’s different....

Not entirely unexpected, Asus will be launching a WS or Work Station version of its P9X79 motherboards which is simply called the P9X79WS and the first picture of the new board has now appeared online. This model shares some basic design elements with the Pro and Deluxe boards, but it's pretty clear that it's not intended for the same market. ASUS may have the amazingly sexy Republic of Gaming boards, but Workstation (WS) series boards are filled to the brim with great detail and are fit for mission - critical environments. The WS - branded boards are usually based on chipsets from Intel's client product lines rather than Enterprise lines. Intel's Sandy Bridge - E...

In a decade or so down the line, experts looking back likely will say that 2012 was the year cable operators and the rest of the telecommunications industry pivoted from basic “get it out there” multiscreen platforms to those that work with a far higher level of precision and efficiency. That’s the plan, at least. What happens remains to be seen. What is clear is that the industry is poised to take several important steps beyond the “one off” catch-as-catch-can approach that has dominated to date. “The year 2011 saw most — if not all — the major service providers world-wide investigating adaptive streaming, ranging from lab investigations to highly publicized deployments,” wrote Yuval Fisher, chief technology officer of RGB Networks in response to emailed questions. “The market has matured quickly, with operators’ expectations quickly rising from the initial ‘help me just see how this works’ to ‘I need high video quality, high-availability equipment.’”

Well here we go! After months of leaked specs and images, Motorola's finally decided to officially announce its Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition, though just in the UK for now. Just as we've been hearing for months, the two match each other in almost every way save for screen size - the Motorola XOOM 2 has a 10.1 - inch screen, just like on its predecessor. It's reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass and Motorola's own splash - resistant coating for even better protection. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor brings plenty of software muscle and there's 1GB of RAM to back it up. All of that is packaged in an ultra slim 0.35” (8.8mm) body and spiced up with a...

At IDF, Intel demonstrated a chip that will come after Ivy Bridge, the next "tick" in Intel's release schedule. That chip is codenamed Haswell, and it will bring architectural improvements to the 22 nm process that will first be introduced in Ivy Bridge. Intel sees Haswell as the goal for its multi - phase Ultrabook initiative. Looking into its future plan for the platform, Intel CEO Paul Otellini described a new class of platform power management in development for the 2013 Haswell products for Ultrabooks. Intel said that advances in silicon technology and platform engineering are expected to reduce idle platform power by more than 20 times over current designs without...

Challenging Sony's Playstation 3D display, LG's new LW980T "Dual Play" TV lets Xbox users see two different views on the same screen -- ditching the standard split gaming view. Spotted this week at IFA, the technology requires a pair of snazzy all-right / all-left passive specs and a compatible 3d Xbox game to get two different 2D perspectives on one TV. Compared to Sony's $499, 24-inch active-shutter offering, the 47-inch and 55-inch passive 'tubes are significantly larger and more expensive, rumored to retail for £1799 (or $2915) and £2499 (or $4050), respectively. According to sources, this feature will join LG's lineup of Cinema 3D displays sometime in September...
