Mindful Eating And Exercise :: Wellness Program :: Spirited Life

Mindful Eating And Exercise :: Wellness Program :: Spirited Life | The (Mind) Full Plate | Scoop.it

Our early survey data indicated that 79 percent of North Carolina's United Methodist clergy are overweight or obese. Through our health screenings, we now also know that at the start of the program, one-third of the clergy participating in Spirited Life qualified for a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome, a condition that raises your risk for heart disease, diabetes and stroke. A significant goal of this program is to address these health concerns.

Eating mindfully and regular exercise are essential to physical health, but they can be challenging, given the abundance of calorie-laden food and unpredictable schedules clergy often face. Spirited Life offers strategies to combat these and other roadblocks.

MINDFUL EATING vs. EMOTIONAL EATING « The Healthy Planet | The (Mind) Full Plate | Scoop.it

The void we feel inside that we’re trying to fill with food might be a need for connection with others, or to find a more meaningful job or for spirituality or a need for more fun in our lives. No matter how much food we try to stuff into that void, it will remain empty because food is not the solution to the problem.

Dr. Amy Fuller's insight:

Sometimes our emotions are so powerful we use food to try and change our feelings. Mindfulness tools allow the perfect solution for emotional eating. We eat and enjoy our food instead of eating our emotions!
