I recently purchased a Nikon 1 J4 kit with the 10-30mm PD zoom, and a Nikon 1 WP-N3 underwater housing. I bought both at very attractive prices with the intent of using the combination for occasional underwater images and video, as well as an inclement weather option for travel and landscape photography. Earlier today I … Continue reading A morning walk with the Nikon 1 J4 →

To say that the Sony A7s series has stunning low-light capabilities is hardly news anymore but the truth is that these cameras continue to impress us every time something new is published about them. It is also a fact that despite its great still performance, they are more succesful in the film-making industry. We have seen many professional cinematographers and directors integrate the A7s or A7s mark II into their gear because of the stunning image quality you get at low and high ISOs especially.

Following his article about light painting with the Nikon 1 series, photographer Tom Stirr decided to wrap up 2015 by sharing his three go-to lenses for the system – what he calls the “Nikon 1 Holy Trinity.” Surprisingly, the three lenses he has chosen aren’t primes – rather, they are zoom lenses that, when combined, give you an equivalent field of view of 18-810mm.

Five years have passed since the launch of the X100, Fujifilm’s first X series camera. It was released with a 12MP APS-C sensor, an innovative hybrid viewfinder and a rangefinder look that attracted the attention of many photographers. One year later, the X-Pro1 was announced...

At the beginning of the 19th century, seasonal workers in the rice fields were mainly women and were called “Mondina” or “Mondarisa” in Italian (the verb “Mondare” means to clean). The work took place in the spring (from April to June) when the rice fields were flooded to protect the delicate rice plants from the thermal jump between day and night. The work consisted of transplanting the plants in the “monda,” a very tough job for these women...

Leica released a new firmware update that aims to improve and fix a few bugs on the Leica Q. More specifically Leica states that the upgrade will improve the image quality at low ISOs (the recent Leica SL received a similar update recently). The Olympus Air A01 is a camera that works with your smartphone. It doesn’t have an LCD screen or EVF but connects to your mobile device via WiFi connectivity and a dedicated app. The A01 made its debut in Asia and then the US market. It is not a new concept because Sony introduced the similar QX series one year earlier. The A01 has a Micro Four Thirds mount and basically the same specs as the OM-D E-M10, sensor included.

When a new year begins, many of us feel that we’ve been given a clean slate upon which to rewrite our respective histories and start anew. While common goals involve weight loss, fitness or simply being a better person, for many photographers and artists, the new year is a chance to experiment with a new genre, or in the case of the truly disciplined, start up a 365 day project...

Ask any Fujifilm user which camera they prefer for street photography, and most will respond with a model from the X100 series. There are a few reasons for this including the rangefinder design, hybrid viewfinder, compact body, the same X-Trans II APS-C sensor found inside the interchangeable models, and of course, the excellent 23mm f/2 lens.

At the beginning of each new year, Mathieu and I have the tradition of dedicating a post to our favourite mirrorless blogs from around the web, featuring a mix of well-established references alongside up-and-coming websites with lots of potential. As gear reviewers, we always enjoy reading the opinions of and seeing the photographs produced by our “virtual colleagues” as they often touch upon subjects that we weren’t able to cover in our own reviews or provide a different perspective.
