Back in May I was gorging on the SonyAlphaRumors site about a little known feature some poor likeminded soul found in an A7S online owners manual... something about an "electronic shutter." I kept reading and hoping. As I read, the possibilities began to pop into my imagination.

The question I get asked most by friends and family lately is where have my DSLRs gone? Why are my current cameras so small? Why mirrorless? My usual answer is along the lines of, “it’s not a bad way of carrying a backup around, or taking on holiday for nice shots without lugging your DSLR.”

A review of the Fujifilm 27mm f/2.8 lens with the X-T1 camera. The ultra compact pancake lens with stunning bokeh is a great, low-cost everyday lens.
... So, why do I flirt with the thoughts of buying an X-T1? I have determined it is purely psychological. Indeed! I have said publicly and previously have written on this blog that the Olympus E-M1 is the camera I wish all my other cameras over the past 44+ years would have been. It does everything I want a camera to do and it does it well. So why do I have occasional doubts? ...

I am very proud to be a Fujifilm ‘X Photographer’ and ambassador. Given that I set out in my photographic journey as a teenager shooting grainy Fuji film (yes, film!), I feel honoured to be working with the Fuji team. I still miss the smell of film in the fridge though!

Already being heralded as “Camera of the Year” by some reviewers, Frederick and Doug take a look at the third camera in Sony’s a7 series. While offering a sensor with only 12MP, the a7s is getting a lot of attention for a sensor that can shoot up to ISO 409,600 as well as being one of the first still-image camera that also produces 4K video.

Artisans Project: Michael Hart, Blacksmith.
The photography stage of the first part of my Artisans project is now complete and I will soon finish the photo book and have it on sale to raise money for NASS. This week I was welcomed by Michael Hart at his workshop in Horsmonden, Kent and it was another brilliant experience. Michael was making something a little different to normal, a knife blade where the donor metal was a pair of old chainsaw blades which would give the finished item a distinctive finish due to the mix of metals in the blades. The fire was started quickly and was soon red hot which at ‘only’ 800º is of little use to a blacksmith apparently, the real action starts at over 1200º. Michael has to work quickly to keep the metal in it’s correct temperature range to work with so there is a lot of back-and-forth between forge and anvil for example. I soon realised that the first strike of the hammer creates the most spectacular display of sparks and I was lucky to catch a great example of this. The blade was later dipped in acid and sanded to it’s near final state but sadly there was a problem with the handle which Michael will go back to at another time. I’d like to thank Michael for being so welcoming and explaining every stage with such enthusiasm, if you need something impressive made then get in touch with him.

I dreamt about this camera for weeks and weeks. Pondered about whether or not to order it. Scoured the internet for sample images and review posts. Everyone was in love with it. People were replacing their DSLRs with this camera. And I wanted that so bad. Like, you have no idea. I absolutely LOVE my…
