Following the adoption of a new method for rice production by Liberian farmers known as the “System of Rice Intensification (SRI), the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP), based in Paynesville, has received support from the government of Liberia and partners to carry out the implementation of the program.

The West Africa Agriculture Productivity Programme launched a rice value chain initiative aimed at increasing yields in the production of rice by farmers in the country. The SRI initiative under the WAAPP-assisted Rice Value Chain Innovation Platform was launched in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

Improving and Scaling up the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in West Africa’ is the 3-year first phase (Jan 2014 – Dec 2016) of a regional World Bank-financed project to increase rice productivity and competitiveness throughout the 13 countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This training was done undertaken by the project.
