Streaming Music Service Deezer Plans IPO to Challenge Spotify, Apple

Deezer filed for an initial public offering to raise funds as the French music-streaming service seeks to challenge Spotify and Apple.

John Mincy's curator insight, October 7, 2015 9:06 PM

The competition between the streaming service companies is ever evolving. The desire to have the best service and to be the first company to provide the best and complete service is always raging. This has caused companies like Deezer to launch an IPO in order to challenge the top companies and ultimately beat them for the number one spot.

Conner Hitchcock's curator insight, October 11, 2015 5:36 PM

As I said before, i really believe all of the new completion in the streaming industry will cause all of the companies be the best that they can be.  also with all of the new companies rising like Deezer, artists like Taylor Swift and Fight Cloud will join the streaming revolution rather then being against it.

While streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music offer a seemingly unlimited buffet of music from which listeners can pick and choose, it may be more variety than most listeners need, or than they're willing to pay $9.99 a month for. Should music streaming instead take a hint from companies...
Ivette Abundiz's curator insight, November 9, 2015 8:33 PM

Very interesting article. It explains not only how streaming music companies are leading the distribution of music, but it points out that there might be a twist to being successful. Many apps like Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora give you the option to pay a fee of what is around $9.99 and give you access to the music in the world. What has been talked about recently is that perhaps not every customer wants or needs ll that access. This article shows that an app like "Digitally Imported"(an app I personally use), being focuses on a certain genre and just plays music within the branches of that genre. This way those certain people that only like or prefer a certain type of genre they can just get that app and pay a fraction of what Spotify would offer.

Daniel DiRugeris's comment, August 2, 2015 12:52 PM
I like the slow rise of vinyl coming back. Consumers will find this very pleasing and try to help in anyway possible. Many small stores are getting a fun reaction to it and I'm happy that they are. In the next decade, it should be more accessible in price hopefully for other people. Long live vinyl.

Christopher Coleman's insight:

The best use for streaming music services is for "music discovery."  Essentially, services like Spotify have replaced the "listening stations" that used to exist in the music stores ... that used to exist.  "Listen before you buy."

Cody J. Sullen's curator insight, July 19, 2017 8:09 PM

This site goes along with one of the topics brought up in the video discussion. Spotify is a huge music streaming app that everyone is already hip to or becoming hip to. Apps like these, make marketing easier and can be convenient for artists and buyers. Musically.com is new to me,  but I see that is being updated daily which lets me know that it is reliable.

usic is also good at giving itself away. The EC's survey revealed 88 percent of Europeans that download or stream music can often, or always, find what they're looking for -- the highest rate of the five categories. This is the kind of number that worries many people in the music business. Look no further than some labels' and artists' efforts to limit or eliminate free listening on Spotify, the largest music subscription service in the world. Piracy still exists but captures little attention these days, almost as if it has been completely eviscerated (that's hardly the case).

The change from physical media to downloading saw higher barriers: principally, Jacob explains, buying new kit -- you had to replace your Discman with an iPod, your hi-fi with a computer. But when you switch between downloading your music and streaming it, there's no new kit required -- you just keep using your PC, laptop, iPod or smartphone.
