Who knew the topic of online influence could be so exciting and, well, complex? Apparently, Social Media Today did when they assembled a panel for their “Best Thinkers Series” which is a weekly discussion style webinar moderated by expert journalist Maggie Fox.
I was fortunate to participate in this event with Megan Berry, marketing manager from Klout. Pulling together a vendor and a practitioner is no easy task – as online influence was discussed as a concept- what does it all mean, straight through to how does one achieve it on and offline.
Most people, especially those we might consider to be technophobes, would scoff at the notion of social media as art.
Yet, if we define art as self-expression, posting is the new painting. Years ago, an artist would create a work of art–be it a painting, a story, a sculpture, or any other medium of self-expression–but find great difficulty in distributing that art.
Now, with the advent of social media, production and promotion are one in the same.
Ever thought how odd your online life is? Ever thought what could go wrong? This film was made to explore the issues around ENO's production of Nico Muhly's new opera 'Two Boys', a new opera that lifts the lid on ===>the dangers of living our lives online.<===

Facebook wall posts, photos, messages, events pages and more can be helpful tools for authorities tracking a suspect, serving as key evidence in criminal cases.
Something interesting has been happening across schools and districts in response to online safety concerns. Instead of empowering and teaching students how to harness the power of the internet and social media they are banning teachers from interacting with teachers in online spaces like Facebook. These misguided schools and districts like this one in Ontario tell educators, students, and parents that,
"The use of the Internet and social media, despite best intentions, may cause members to forget their professional responsibilities and the unique position of trust and authority given to them by society,"

Where journalists used to be the trusted agents for reporting on the ground and fact-checking stories before publication, every Web user is now a potential journalist.
And as the deluge of user-generated information gathers strength, finding out what's important to people in their private and working lives becomes more and more challenging. How to sort between truth, half truth and falsehood? Technical filtering can't (yet) match human capacity to discriminate between useful content and garbage.
This is the increasingly vital role of the online curator. The discussion will examine to what extent curation is becoming integral to journalism, and whether bloggers and tweeters can adequately play the the reporting role of journalists.
Journalists have been curating content for years. It’s always been an integral part of newsgathering. We may not have called it curation, but we were doing it all the same. In fact curation is an essential part of our job.
What are the real, closeted reasons behind the act of “tweeting”? Why would someone spend hours tweeting to complete strangers he/she has never met before and will probably never meet in person? What needs does tweeting fulfill? Do we really think of the psychology behind our tweeting habits?

State of the Media: Social Media Report Q3 Social media's popularity continues to grow, connecting people with just about everything they watch and buy.
At it's core, I believe that utilizing social media for marketing is nothing more than content distribution in a way that encourages two-way communication.
The U.K. indicated in a meeting this week that it's reversing its stance on restricting access to social media, a person familiar with the discussions said.
Suite aux heurts violents de Londres, le gouvernement de David Cameron avait rencontré les responsables des principaux réseaux sociaux Facebook, Twitter et RIM (Blackberry). Même s'ils reprochent à ce...
