Social Media and Pharma self-Promotion: Bad cocktail or public health service?

Social Media and Pharma self-Promotion: Bad cocktail or public health service? | Social marketing - Health Promotion | Scoop.it

John McElhenney (@jmacofearth) writes:

"The recent storm over Pfizer's Facebook Page being hacked has brought the social media and pharma discussion back into the public spotlight.

Do the pharmaceutical companies provide valuable information through channels like Facebook and Twitter, or is it merely advertising cloaked as social media conversations?

How much of what is deemed "social media" is simply repackaging of the drug maker's message and how much of it is actual discussion and dialogue?"

Camminare fa bene, a qualunque età.

What do web-use skill differences imply for online health information searches?

What do web-use skill differences imply for online health information searches? | Social marketing - Health Promotion | Scoop.it

'Findings related to Web-use skills differences suggest two classes of interventions to facilitate access to good-quality online health information.

Challenges related to attitudes and technical skills should be remedied by improving people’s basic Web-use skills. In particular, Web users should be taught how to avoid information overload by generating specific search terms and to avoid low-quality information by requesting results from trusted websites only.

Problems related to discovery may be remedied by visually labeling search engine results according to quality criteria.'
