More than a million Truecaller accounts from across the globe were compromised in a recent hack by the Syrian Electronic Army.

What type of personal information? Names, street addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers and expiration dates.
What happened? The database supplied by third-party ticketing solution provider Vendini was compromised by hackers who may have stolen the personal information of any U of M customer in the last two years. What was the response? University officials have contacted all individuals affected by the breach.
Details: How the hackers were able to compromise the Vendini systems is currently unknown. According toa statement released by the company, the stolen information does not include credit card security access codes, account user names or passwords.
Drupal, the open source content management system, is resetting the passwords for nearly one million accounts in the wake of a data breach.

Sensitive information and encrypted passwords of customers were accessed, according to Reputation.com. An undisclosed number of customers had their personal information accessed, after an online reputation management company was breached. On Tuesday, Reputation.com, a Redwood City, Calif.-based business, sent emails to customers about the incident. The company provides services such as removing negative or unwanted information about individuals or businesses from search sites.
LivingSocial, the online offers site owned in largish part by Amazon, has just emailed its userbase, said to be 50,000,000-strong, to fess up to a data breach. Another day, another shed-load of ... We also encourage you, for your own personal data security, to consider changing password(s) on any other sites on which you use the same or similar password(s). That's also good advice, but a few more words would have made it even better: if you've used the same password on multiple sites, ===> change the passwords on those sites so that they are all different. <===
According to the FBI, the attack originated from a foreign IP address. An online database containing the personal information of 125,000 students at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was hacked. How many victims? 125,000. LUXEMBOURG - Quelques jours après la divulgation de la fuite de données de 1,5 million d utilisateurs des chemins de fer belges, des milliers de noms au Grand-Duché ont été dévoilés. «Ce fichier pourrait être utilisé à mauvais escient» Le fichier, disponible en ligne et indexé par les moteurs de recherche depuis plusieurs semaines, contient ainsi non seulement les noms des clients de la SNCB, mais également les mails privés, les adresses et les identifiants de connexion au site belge. En revanche, les mots de passe n'y figurent pas. Une véritable mine d'informations que plusieurs dizaines d'internautes ont pu sauvegarder avant que le fichier ne soit retiré du site Internet des chemins de fer belges. Un fichier que certains experts, cités par les médias belges, estiment à quatre millions d'euros.

Hackers who breached Google database may have sought identities of Chinese spies in U.S. “Knowing that you were subjects of an investigation allows them to take steps to destroy information, get people out of the country,” said one former official, who, like others interviewed for this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a highly sensitive matter.
The official said the Chinese could also have sought to deceive U.S. intelligence officials by conveying false or misleading information.

The past year has seen a substantial uptick in the amount of total records breached. In 2012, there was a dramatic increase in the total number of reported records affected (1,977,412), but a relatively low amount of institutions (51) that reported breaches. In fact, the past year has seen the most reported compromised records in the higher education sector since 2006, based on data since tracking began in 2005.
