PRISM: Microsoft denies giving NSA blanket access to Outlook and Skype | ICT Security-Sécurité PC et Internet | Scoop.it

Microsoft has defended claims that detailed deep co-operation with the US government, including the circumvention of encryption in its Outlook.com email and access to its SkyDrive cloud storage service and Skype.

A statement issued by Microsoft denied it had provided blanket access of its products to NSA surveillance teams, and reiterated that it only responds to valid requests. "We have clear principles, which guide the response across our entire company to government demands for customer information for both law enforcement and national security issues," the statement said.

NSA helped build Android source code

NSA helped build Android source code | ICT Security-Sécurité PC et Internet | Scoop.it

Google’s Android might be about to suffer behind the bamboo curtain after it was revealed US spooks at the NSA gave the company a hand with the code.

According to Quartz, the source code that Google used was contributed by the secretive National Security Agency. This means that each phone could come with its own special link to US espionage, and might explain why China is still not that happy with Google.

So while the US is busy banning Chinese phone companies because they might have links with Chinese intelligence, it appears that Google really does have NSA code under its bonnet.

An NSA researcher told Bloomberg Businessweek that Security Enhancements for Android is one of several projects the US spy agency contributes to open-source operating platforms.

Kevin Bishop's comment, July 8, 2013 3:44 AM
It totally makes sense that the EU is considering taking that step. It is interesting that a different country's government is more concerned than our own about our citizens and their rights. I agree completely with the woman's statement that she does not believe that national security is a good enough reason anymore. It is not in the slightest. Losing our rights is far more dangerous and negative than the government's attempts at reducing incidents of terrorism. Orwell's 1984 is becoming more and more a reality everyday. Our government is beginning to get to the point of no return. The probability of a regime change will continue to increase unless the government back pedals.

Use Android? You’re Probably Giving Google All Your Wifi Passwords

Use Android? You’re Probably Giving Google All Your Wifi Passwords | ICT Security-Sécurité PC et Internet | Scoop.it

And the passwords are in plaintext, too. When you format an Android phone and set it up on first run, after you login to your Google account and restore your backup, it immediately connects to wifi using a saved password. There’s no sort of password hash that your Android phone could send your router to authenticate besides the password itself.

Oh, and Google is part of NSA’s Prism program. If an NSA analyst, or likely someone from CIA or even FBI (Prism is a “team sport”), asks Google for information about you, your house’s and office’s wifi passwords are likely included in that data. Without a warrant.

Eye on surveillance: France's PRISM, EU's concerns | ICT Security-Sécurité PC et Internet | Scoop.it
The Fourth of July saw a flurry of news related to the U.S. National Security Agency's intelligence-gathering efforts. Here's a rundown. Read this article by Edward Moyer on CNET News.

As civil rights activists in New York, San Francisco, and across the U.S. celebrated the Fourth of July by protesting the National Security Agency's intelligence-gathering practices, several surveillance-related news items appeared. Here's a roundup:

France's Le Monde newspaper reported Thursday that the country's Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE) -- an intelligence and national security agency under the direction of the defense ministry -- has been illegally intercepting e-mails, texts, phone calls, and Web activity within France and between France and other countries, an effort similar to the NSA's PRISM-related efforts.

Documents seen by the German newspaper Spiegel suggest that not only were

but also that the building's computer network was infiltrated.

THIS is going TOO FAR!!!
