Thoroughbred stakes: $50,000-added Governor’s Handicap — a 6-furlong event for fillies and mares — on July 23 The California Authority of Racing Fairs did a poor job of communicating the rules for the Gold Rush Pick Six, because many bettors obviously thought there would be a mandatory payout of the entire pool on Monday’s closing day of the Alameda County Fair. 14 operates independently of CARF, so the Gold Rush Pick Six won’t continue there, but it will resume with the Humboldt County Fair (Aug. 19-28), the Oak Tree at Pleasanton fall meeting Sept. 23-Oct. Accentuating the difficulty of filling programs at the State Fair, only 41 horses were entered for seven races Friday and 52 for eight races Saturday and Sunday. A lot of trainers won’t be as aggressive running horses (at the State Fair), but we’re doing everything we can to get them there. The Stars and Stripes program Saturday at Belmont Park features six graded stakes events worth $3.8 million. There also are the Grade 2, $500,000 Suburban Handicap and three Grade 3 events: the $500,000 Dwyer Stakes, the $400,000 Belmont Sprint Championship and the $150,000 Victory Ride Stakes. … Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer runs Silver Assault and Jeff Bonde runs Right Hand Man in Saturday’s $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile.
