The scientist who has given a “sixth sense” to laboratory animals by allowing them to detect invisible infrared light has promised an even bigger revolution in the research field he has pioneered. Miguel Nicolelis, a Brazilian neuroscientist working at Duke University in the United States, said that he has created a way of allowing animals to communicate with each other through artificial aids connected directly to their brains. The aim of Kinetica Art Fair is to present works that exemplify universal concepts, heighten consciousness and advance human potential; it is through the performative and immediate nature of the works and the viewers creative engagement with them that a strong attunement to the concepts are activated. Many of the works are intuitive in the ways that they reach out to the viewer or the viewer will activate the work into being, a kind of living art where the viewer and art are creating an inter-change, or physical dialogue.
The interconnection between art and science has been around for a long time, Kinetica is dedicated to the historical and contemporary importance of these themes and provides London with an international platform unlike anything realised before. Kinetica Art Fair brings together galleries, artist’s collectives, curatorial groups and organisations specialising in kinetic, electronic and new media art from around the world, collectively portraying an ‘Art of Universal knowledge’, where many disciplines are called upon in the creation of the work and its concepts. Marketers are using a variety of factors such as location to target mobile coupons. However, lack of personalization from not using analytics is causing some brands to fall behind. Via Fabienne PUEL
Realtime Responsive Typography, a project by Marko Dugonjić, is just an experiment, but it's an interesting one. By using your webcam—after receiving your explicit permission to do so, of course—the page will track your face and adjust the font to an optimal size based on how far away your are.
Fantasme technologique, la réalité augmentée était accueillie y a deux ans comme l'avenir des usages mobiles. Pourtant, peu de solutions ont survécu à cet élan.

Most 3D printers use a technique called extrusion, through which the printer melts plastic and lays it down in layers to create a 3D object. But the Form 1 features stereolithography, which uses a laser to cure liquid resin into microscopic layers, resulting in much more precise creations.

Where is the onesie & gloves to go with this viritual experience? *sigh* I like the Johnny Mnemonic [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113481/] version of 3-D virtual reality better.
The first bionic hand that allows an amputee to feel what they are touching will be transplanted later this year in a pioneering operation that could introduce a new generation of artificial limbs with sensory perception. Via Jean-Philippe BOCQUENET
"Published on Feb 18, 2013 Can we use our brains to directly control machines -- without requiring a body as the middleman? Miguel Nicolelis talks through an astonishing experiment, in which a clever monkey in the US learns to control a monkey avatar, and then a robot arm in Japan, purely with its thoughts. The research has big implications for quadraplegic people -- and maybe for all of us. (Filmed at TEDMED 2012.)" Via João Greno Brogueira

On savait l’imprimante 3D prête à révolutionner l’industrie. Avait-on pensé à la science et plus largement à la médecine. À 17 ans, un lycée américain fabrique une prothèse de bras à partir d’une imprimante 3D pour seulement 250$. Via Pascal Minguet

I've been developing ways to use 3d powder printing to make air powered robots that have no hard moving parts. Using procedural modeling I can create rapid iterations, incremental designs, and inexpensive prototypes with a simple set of tools. By LAURESHA XHIHANI: WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) — The hottest attraction at the Westport Library is not a book or collection of DVDs, but rather two manufacturing units. At the heart of the spacious library, an area called MakerSpace has been carved out to encourage creativity and the spirit of invention. Inside the space are two MakerBot Replicator machines — 3D printers, as they are more commonly known. The stuff they can do is amazing. Via Karen du Toit
