In a recent article (see below), the author compares, and touts, a print-to-mobile technology called SnapTag to QR Codes, but does so knowing very little about QR Code technology. Or, at least, that's the impression given based on the comments made. Take a closer look. My comments/questions are in bold.

Once we have a home full of connected devices do we really want to individually manage all of them? Mike Kuniavsky, a principal in the Innovation Services Group at PARC, explains in this weeks podcast how we’re going to have to think differently about programming devices for the internet of things. Devices will need to know what they contain and how those elements might contribute to a certain scenario in the home.
For example when you want to watch a movie, you shouldn’t have to program 6 different devices in your home to tell them what they should do when you toggle on your movie setting, your devices should have some sense of what they are capable of and how to enter a set mode. As he did in his chat in February at our San Francisco Internet of Things meetup, Kuniavsky, likened this device behavior to video games like Minecraft or Lemmings, where preset general behaviors determines how the game unfolded as opposed to rigid and specific actions. He explains all this and more in the podcast. Check it out.

Scientists have used a custom-made 3D printer to make a synthetic tissue that could have a variety of applications — including the ability to transmit long-distance electric signals much like nerves. The process, published in Science by an Oxford University team led by Hagan Bayley, prints a network of droplets made out of aqueous solutions — a liquid mixture — instead of the solids that standard 3D printers produce. "This card and pen holder was created to illustrate the range of possibilities using Stratasys' different 3D printing technologies. One half of the model is created using FDM technology in ABSi material - strong, light, durable and suitable for real production requirements. The second part is created using Inkjet multi-material jetting technology which deposits 2 photopolymer-based materials at the same time and mimics the precise look and feel of more complex end products. This part features extremely smooth surfaces, fine details and embedded writing in a separate material. Together, using both FDM and Inkjet technology, designers and manufacturers can cover the entire gamut of Fit, Form and Functional Prototyping and Rapid Manufacturing requirements!"

Barobo, a UC Davis spinoff, has launched a platform aimed at schools and hobbyists with access to a 3D printer. Design your own accessories, wheels, attachments or download them from the Barobo website. After a successful school trial, Barobo have just donated Mobots to some local hackerspaces so this could be the start of an interesting online robot building community.
