[INP-LAAS] A Non-Invasive Millimetre-Wave Radar Sensor for Automated Behavioural Tracking in Precision Farming - Application to Sheep Husbandry | Publications scientifiques | Scoop.it

The automated quantification of the behaviour of freely moving animals is increasingly needed in applied ethology. State-of-the-art approaches often require tags to identify animals, high computational power for data collection and processing, and are sensitive to environmental conditions, which limits their large-scale utilization, for instance in genetic selection programs of animal breeding. Here we introduce a new automated tracking system based on millimetre-wave radars for real time robust and high precision monitoring of untagged animals.

Olive Mill wastewater is considered as a hazardous olive by-product due to its high organic load and its toxic activity. The drying of this effluent under a greenhouse dryer can be an interesting low-cost treatment to obtain a high added value product. In order to provide an efficient design of the dryer that can consistently meet the needs of the customers, a numerical model was developed, as a first step before project implementation, to simulate the drying process inside a modified even span solar greenhouse dryer.

With a multiphase converter, the phase-shedding function dedicated to maximizing the power efficiency, in a manner that is dependent on the load current, is always provided by a centralized controller that induces a Single Point of Failure (SPOF). The objective of this study is to obtain a decentralized control approach to implement this function by removing any SPOF.

Branch and Bound (B&B) algorithms in Global Optimization are used to perform an exhaustive search over the feasible area. One choice is to use simplicial partition sets. Obtaining sharp and cheap bounds of the objective function over a simplex is very important in the construction of efficient Global Optimization B&B algorithms. Although enclosing a simplex in a box implies an overestimation, boxes are more natural when dealing with individual coordinate bounds, and bounding ranges with Interval Arithmetic (IA) is computationally cheap.

[INP-LCA] Stability, reusability, and equivalent circuit of TiO2/treated metakaolinite-based dye-sensitized solar cell | Publications scientifiques | Scoop.it

In this research, treated metakaolinite (TMK) was introduced into the TiO2 photoelectrode to fabricated dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The photovoltaic cells have four main natural components, i.e., a photosensitizer (carotenoid bixin), photoelectrode (TiO2/kaolinite), electrolyte (glycerine carbonate derivative), and counter-electrode (carbon). Their stability, reusability, and equivalent circuit were studied.

We address the problem of covering a rectangle with six identical circles, whose radius is to be minimized. We focus on open cases from Melissen and Schuur (Discrete Appl Math 99:149–156, 2000). Depending on the rectangle side lengths, different configurations of the circles, corresponding to the different ways they are placed, yield the optimal covering.

Industry 4.0 and digital factory offer many alternatives to human monitoring. Time, cost and skills are the real stakes.

[INP-LAPLACE] VDS and VGS Depolarization Effect on SiC MOSFET Short-Circuit Withstand Capability Considering Partial Safe Failure-Mode | Publications scientifiques | Scoop.it

This paper presents a detailed analysis of 1200 V Silicon Carbide (SiC) power MOSFET exhibiting different short-circuit failure mechanisms and improvement in reliability by VDS and VGS depolarization. The device robustness has undergone an incremental pulse under different density decreasing; either drain-source voltage or gate-driver voltage. Unlike silicon device, the SiC MOSFET failure mechanism firstly displays specific gradual gate-cracks mechanism and progressive gate-damage accumulations greater than 4 µs/9 J·cm−2. Secondly, a classical drain-source thermal runaway appears, as for silicon devices, in a time greater than 9 µs.

Nowadays, many aircraft manufacturers are working on new airplanes to reduce the environmental footprint and therefore meet greenhouse gas reduction targets. The concept of more electric aircraft is one of the solutions to achieve this goal. For this aircraft architecture, several electrical devices are used in order to supply propulsive and non-propulsive functions. This paper focuses on the sizing of a direct hybridization system to supply a non-propulsive function in an aircraft. It is composed of a High-Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (HT-PEMFC) and a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery.

Waste plastic (WP) thermal pyrolysis is a promising method which could utilize WP to produce fuels. This study investigated this method to provide a direction for prospective industrial and commercial productions. The process temperature, the WP conversion and the pyrolysis rate are the decisive factors for industrial applications.

On the NASA 2020 rover mission to Jezero crater, the remote determination of the texture, mineralogy and chemistry of rocks is essential to quickly and thoroughly characterize an area and to optimize the selection of samples for return to Earth. As part of the Perseverance payload, SuperCam is a suite of five techniques that provide critical and complementary observations via Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), Time-Resolved Raman and Luminescence (TRR/L), visible and near-infrared spectroscopy (VISIR), high-resolution color imaging (RMI), and acoustic recording (MIC).
