The modern buying journey is far more complex than in the past, we’d almost go as far as saying that no two buying journeys are totally alike anymore. A multitude of touch-points in the build up to a purchase gives brands a myriad of opportunities to engage with a consumer, or alternatively lose them.
According to research from Google, for large retailers, social contact will first happen in the middle of a customer’s buying journey 47% of the time. With just under half of your customers potentially influenced at this juncture, a strategy that creates desire and helps to build trusting connections between the consumer and the brand is vital.
Here are 5 ways that Twitter can be one of the strongest bricks in building a bridge over that gap....

Just see a great tweet? Want to share it with others by reposting, AKA retweeting or RTing, that tweet? Cool! Sounds like you're getting the hang of how to tweet on Twitter. Now do me a favor, and don't touch that retweet button!
Not yet, at least. First, let's talk about the change Twitter's made to its retweet feature -- a really good change, in our opinion.
If you've clicked the retweet icon at the bottom of a tweet lately, you may have noticed the brand new "add a comment" feature, allowing you to comment on the content you're retweeting if you want. We love the spirit of this change because it discourages blind retweeting and encourages users to add their own voice about why they're sharing that Tweet....

Thanks to Twitter, businesses are closer to consumers than ever before. Tweets haven't replaced phone calls and handwritten letters, but they've become a popular way for consumers to vocalize their questions, praise, or complaints -- all in plain view of anyone who can find the conversation online.
But customers don't just expect you to read their tweets about you -- they also expect you to reply. According to charts published on Search Engine Watch, 70% of surveyed Twitter users expect a response from brands they reach out to on Twitter. Of those users, 53% want that response in under an hour.
It's important to have a solid strategy for responding to tweets so you can keep your customers happy and drive engagement on Twitter. Should you include a link in your response? How much punctuation (?, !) should you use? Are emoticons off the table?
To help inform your Twitter response strategy, LeadSift gathered data on answers to these questions and more, and culminated them into the visual below. Consider this data in the context of your own brand voice and what you know about your buyers' behavior to develop an action plan when responses come rolling in. And hurry -- your customers are waiting.

Do you struggle to get Twitter followers who actually produce results for you in your business?
Social media isn’t a popularity contest – it’s a tool to connect us with the people and things that matter most in our lives. When it comes to Twitter, it’s possible to have 50,000 meaningless followers that do nothing for your business while another person may have 1000 followers that are highly active and engaged.
Which would you rather have? I know I would always choose the 1000 highly engaged followers over 50,000 followers that never end up doing anything to forward my objective for being on Twitter in the first place.

If you’re a data wonk or just a social media nerd like me, you’re going to LOVE Twitter analytics. The good news is, its easy to acess and simple to use. Start by logging into your account.
Visit https://analytics.twitter.com/user/[your twitter handle here]. You should see a blue box right up top that offers you access to your “Tweet Activity Dashboard.” Click it. If you don’t see the box, you can get to your analytics by visiting https://ads.twitter.com and selecting “Analytics” from the dropdown menu on top. What Analytics Matter? To determine what analytics are most valuable to you, start by revisiting your goals. What are you trying to accomplish through your social media presence? Is it reach (are you trying to reach the widest audience?)? If so, you’ll want to see when your tweets are getting the most organic reach and how your followers are trending. Are you growing your follower base? Is there a time when some tweets do better than others?...

...At the moment, the updated search bar is pretty basic. Twitter plan to continue upgrading as time goes on, and more and more advanced features will become available over time. Still, you're able to set a few parameters, such as the dates you search between and whose posts you're combing through. In other words, you can choose to search a certain person’s tweets between December and January of last year, and you can choose to only search for tweets which contain the hashtag #christmas.
This allows you to track people's changing opinions over time. For those who understand coding and binary and scary words, Twitter have explained their new search bar in impossible amounts of detail over at their official blog post. If you speak fluent binary, check it out. If you don't, all you need to take away from this article is that Twitter is now even more powerful than it was before.

Twitter can feel like a crowded subway station at rush hour—everyone pushing past each other to get where they need to go. But in the Twittersphere, where exactly is the destination?
"People really have defaulted in social media to just putting out content," says Gary Vaynerchuk, founder of social media brand consulting agency VaynerMedia. "That's no different than a newsletter or a blog. It leaves an enormous amount of opportunity on the table."...

Something cool happened when I was tweeting with my buddy Thomas Marzano.
Marzano added me to a list called “IFTTT Engaging Followers“.
But that’s not the cool part.
The cool part is I was added to the list automatically.
Marzano told me he created an “IFTTT recipe” that automatically adds users to the list when they mention Marzano on Twitter.
And he told me it’s super easy to do. So I did it and wrote this blog post on how!...

Twitter’s Analytics tool has never been super forthcoming about all it can do. From its lackluster announcement of a stellar feature to non-obvious ways of getting at your data, it’s a goldmine without a map. As you start looking at the year’s marketing data, you might logically say, hey, can we analyze how we did on Twitter? From the default Analytics interface, the answer might appear to be no. Luckily, there’s a trick to get the answer you need.
First, log into Twitter Analytics by going to ads.twitter.com or analytics.twitter.com, depending on what your account is set up for (if you don’t see anything in one, try the other). Next, go to the Tweet Activity section....

While some of it confirmed what we suspected, we were also shocked by some of the results. Have a read below and let us know if any of these stats were surprising to you, too...
