RefugEase has three main objectives:
1. Helping as many refugees as possible to safety as they flee warn-torn countries and move across Europe and elsewhere. 2. We are all linked closely in this world - and making a difference is very easily achievable. We aim to eliminate the feeling of helplessness among the compassionate by offering localised support and advice on those wanting to help, from donating a sleeping bag, to fundraising, to joining us as an aid worker. 3. We want to spread gratitu

MIA released her latest video "Borders" recently and caused, as she so often does, an Internet uproar. Her self-directed video is a visual commentary on border regimes and the so-called "refugee crisis." Similar to her previous works, "Borders" immediately gave birth to a number of critical conversations across social media on the politics behind MIA’s imagery.

In 2015 alone, more than 530,000 refugees and migrants have risked their lives crossing the sea to reach Europe. Winter is coming and it is unacceptable that many have to experience cold, hunger, and fatigue as they dangerously cross borders by boat and on foot. Borders themselves may not be going anywhere, but good ideas, smart solutions, and our humanity transcends all of that - all nations and borders.

Visiting Lesbos last week, where 9,000 people have been arriving each day, I saw families in dreadful humanitarian conditions. Since then, as the weather has deteriorated, it has got worse. Aid workers told me the humanitarian response was worse than in other international crises they had worked on exactly because it was happening in Europe, and the aid, organisation and mandates they have drawn in elsewhere do not apply. We cannot allow this to happen.

Members of Europe’s tech and startup community see a chance to solve some aspects of this challenge by doing what we do best – looking for solutions in unexpected places and applying our substantial collective technological knowledge to building products and services which may be of help – either to the refugees themselves or to the people and organisations who are helping them.

With the Refugee Emojis keyboard you can turn chatting into donating on your smartphone. By downloading the keyboard as an app from Google Play or Appstore you get 36 different emojis that represent the real needs of refugees. Currently there are over 4 million people fleeing from war in their home country Syria. With each download of Refugee Emojis a donation goes directly to the UN Refugee Agency to support them in their aid for refugees.

Global migration today connects people in unprecedented ways. The scale on which migration takes place, as well as the reasons for displacement, means of travel, and problems with settlement and reintegration pose new justice-needs that require innovative justice solutions. In particular, the European Union (EU), including the Netherlands, is facing immense migration flows since the summer of 2015, which is becoming a political priority.

Orbán’s thesis that multiculturalism is doomed to failure and that different cultural or religious communities cannot co-exist is based on little more than ignorance and prejudice. It ignores a wealth of scholarship and empirical evidence and flies in the face of Europe’s – and especially Hungary’s – own history.

Connecting with family is a top priority for newly arrived refugees who want their loved ones to know they are safe. IRC staff direct people to cafés and restaurants that provide WiFi free of charge. Because refugees use their mobile phones to navigate routes through Europe, we advise them on locations where they can purchase SIM cards and recharge their phones.
