Tiberius Brastaviceanu on Open Value Networks

“In addition to developing highly advanced scientific instruments, Tiberus Brastaviceanu and his team have created an innovative process halfway between traditional research and open collaboration. Based on fairness, transparency and redistribution of profits, their methodology is likely to revolutionize scientific collaboration.”

The Decline of Wikipedia: Even As More People Than Ever Rely on It, Fewer People Create It | MIT Technology Review | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
The community that built the largest encyclopedia in history is shrinking, even as more people and Internet services depend on it than ever. Can it be revived, or is this the end of the Web’s idealistic era?

From the Command Economy to the eNetworked Industrial Ecosystem

“This paper explores the transition from the command & control (C2) structure and culture of the traditional hierarchy – as backbone of last Century’s Industrial Revolution – towards the eNetworked Industrial Ecosystem – as backbone for this Century’s on-going IT-Revolution. Socio-cultural and economic contextual variables that may help or hinder the implementation of a heterarchical organization driven by responsible autonomy, are analyzed underlining the paradox hidden in the ‘emergent’ nature of an eNetworked organization. We illustrate how, within the classical ‘top-down’ managerial approach, the very power of initiative that can leverage ‘bottom-up’ clustering of resources to address dynamic organizational goals is hindered to conclude that a deep culture of trust and collaboration can unleash this power enabling the untapped ‘mystery’ of complexity to be used as a competitive advantage.”

A Day at Campo de Cebada, a working P2P community

Situated in the heart of Madrid’s La Latina district, El Campo de Cebada is a community-managed urban space. It is also a great working example of a for-benefit P2P association. Everybody is welcome to contribute and benefit from El Campo de Cebada, where neighbours invest their time and effort building and maintaining both the physical and intellectual structures that hold “ECDC” together.

TOGETHER . How cooperatives show resilience to the crisis

‘This great new documentary, featuring Mondragon and other co-operative inspirations shows how it is not just financial co-operatives who are more resilient to crisis, but all co-ops.

Hacking Ecuador's economy

Hacking Ecuador's economy | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

FLOK Society is, at its core, a research project occurring within a university: Ecuador’s post-graduate-focused state school the IAEN. But the parameters of the project push us to seek as many partnerships with any other schools, entities, social organizations, and communities with a stake in the project. Which is to say, there is an open invitation, and there soon will be proactive attempts to court, input and collaboration from all Ecuadorians and any international group that shares the values of FLOK and is interested in the theory that by creating and empowering peer networks a country can create a new economic matrix.

“ANOSI – Volos Volunteers – the group of people who set up and keeps running the ‘no middlemen’ food and basic industrial goods distribution in Volos. They link producers with consumers, using an online ordering system. All orders are fulfilled directly by vendors, during monthly distribution meetings, held at the parking lot of Volos stadium.

An Open Call for Open Hardware Technology for the Environment

“Anyone reasonably informed today understands that we are going through a major cultural shift. Capitalism and logics of egoist accumulation have led to the destruction of the environment, and as the number of humans on earth does not cease to grow, worst case scenari beckons. The scale of environmental man-made damages suggests that we need to envision new scalable collective solutions. Everything humans do is a form of technology, so it is technology itself that needs to radically changed to revert the adverse effects on our environment. I propose this axiom to get closer to that “ideal paradigm” : “If a technology is good for the environment, it should be made available for everyone to use, modify, distribute.” That is simple enough to call for a volunteer action and establish a consensus among a group of individuals to work together towards a common objective.”

Why we need cooperative accumulation

As human beings we have evolved and continue to enact of a story that has its roots in the agricultural revolution. In this story the world is made for us. We are the pinnacle of evolution. Thus we are entitled to exercise dominion of the resources and creatures of the earth. In short, the idea that the world is made for us is deeply embedded in our psyche. In the last 160 years, the age of fossil fuels, the unparalleled extension of human influence and power by the magic elixir of oil has enabled us to elevate `the truth of our dominion`. We are now the dominant force shaping the face of the planet, the species that ushered in the age of the anthropocene.

Liberating Ourselves Locally: towards federations of DIY Communities

Liberating Ourselves Locally: towards federations of DIY Communities | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“There is something truly exciting about the interconnections between subcultures and the value of their hybridization in the spirit of creativity. What happens, for instance, when you combine botany buffs and hackers? You might get something like BioBridge, the amorphous DIYbio contingent of Noisebridgers, working on experiments in oyster mushroom growing and developing Arduino-controlled sensors for monitoring temperature and pH levels in kombucha brews and sourdough starters. Here you would also find overlap with Tastebridge’s Vegan Hackers night and perhaps some friendly Food Not Bombs volunteers.

Christian Siefkes on Distribution Pools

Christian Siefkes on Distribution Pools | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

As a trendwatcher with a larger overview of trends than people spending less time on this, I’m often frustrated that I see various initiatives emerging, each working independently, often re-inventing the wheel, and not coordinating on standards and interoperability. A lot of energy is wasted in re-doing things that have already been done and could be built on. An example is the various initiatives on peer to peer infrastructures, which as far as I know, are not correlating.
