45 LEADING SCHOLARS, AUTHORS AND ACTIVISTS will convene at The Great Hall of Cooper Union, New York City, for a public “TEACH-IN” on the profound impacts—environmental, economic and social—of runaway technological expansion; the tendency to see technology as the savior for all problems. A change of direction is required, returning the fate of nature to the center of economic and social decision making.

“At the heart of our economies, a diversification and increasing importance of collaborative practices can be observed. By proposing alternative paths of value creation and sharing, these practices open new perspectives in terms of consumption, production and innovation models.” Michel Bauwens

This years OHSummit will be about the transition “From Open Making to Open Manufacturing”. Our focus is to broaden the definition of what open hardware means: production models are shifting from one to one, to one to many structure. The way we think about our tools, transforms the electronics, houses, furniture- anything and everything we depend on. How we live and relate depends on it.

I love Barcelona, and this is nothing new, but sometimes it even manages to surprise me: during the first week of July, in fact, the Catalan capital become the global center of culture of the new industrial revolution. The week of June 30 began with the first day of the beautiful, intimate and now classic, Open Design Shared Creativity conference now in its third edition.

As host of the weekly C-Realm podcast, KMO holds a singular position, acting as facilitator for a wide range of perspectives on economics, consciousness, resource depletion, techno-utopianism, climate change, etc. KMO’s own evolving worldview combines all of the above into a very unique and nuanced analysis that informs the underlying, and not always immediately evident, C-Realm narrative.

Commoners from the CommonsFest and the P2P Lab, amongst many others, took part in the ”Commoners Unite” Camp 2014 organized by the Helsinki-based Pixelache. The three-day long unconference began with the two keynotes by Alain Ambrosi and Markus Schmidt on “Co-inventing the art of commoning” and on Bio-Commons respectively, held at the Helsinki University. Then the participants moved to the island of Vartiosaari where discussions and workshops would be taking place for the next two days. Our friend Dimitris Koukoulakis from the CommonsFest team reports:

We, as Blockupy international coordinating group, met in Berlin on June 21st, to discuss the outcomes of the May of Solidarity and the future perspectives. During the days of mobilization actions were various and rich, and we valued positively that many have been organized from outside the May of Solidarity process. We also agreed that, though the Blockupy process is focused on mobilizing towards the opening of the new ECB building in Frankfurt (now scheduled for early 2015), an autonomous political initiative cannot be simply bounded to the dates established by the institutional agenda: we need a larger social and political perspective. The postponing of Turin EU summit on “youth employment”, on the other hand, has left many without a common space to gather, act and discuss. The message of May of Solidarity across Europe – “Solidarity beyond borders, building democracy from below!” – found much resonance, but a strong transnational movement is still to come and we know that no one, beginning with us, could consider themselves to be sufficient.

Open Source Ecology is a 501(c)(3) group that seeks to empower millions of people around the world by creating all the machinery and systems required to build a society from the ground up, while putting the costs within reach of the common man. In most cases, OSE’s machines cost are about 20% of the similar machinery that is currently available off-shelf. Unlike the equipment available on the market today, the OSE machines are designed and built for a lifetime by using commonly available parts, which may also be produced onsite, using the GVCS fabrication machinery.
