The mobile networks make money by selling expensive data. Android, and the smartphones collect personal data on you. It is worthwhile therefore trying downloading an app that turns on your FM chip, and you can then use as an FM radio. Whether this will work on a tablet, I do not know, but it is worth giving it a try. As well as giving much better listening and saving on data, it also saves on battery life.

Pichai made the announcement at SXSW Interactive and said that the software development kits (SDKs) will not only make it easier for companies and individuals to use Android on fitness trackers, motion sensors and other wearable tech devices, it would also simplify data collection from sensors in order to create supporting apps and functionality.

Google is keeping a tight grip on Android as it expands the operating system out to watches, TVs, and automobiles. To understand this, take a look at the exist Wear watches on the market. Aside from shape and specs, the software experience is the same across devices. This may change in the future. A Google executive has told Re/code that the company plans to loosen its restrictions over time.

A report seeking to profile both Google's Sundar Pichai (who replaced Andy Rubin as head of Android) and Nest founder Tony Fadell claims that Pichai appointed Fadell to run Google's hardware. Fadell retorted that the story "is 100% wrong," but neither he nor Google have refuted any of the more titillating details about Pichai or the search giant presented in the article.

By now, most of us know that when surfing the Web we shouldn't click on ads promising us new ways to lose weight without dieting, read emails about magic pills to boost our "egos" or even click on Twitter links about the "shocking" pictures some friend supposedly found of us online. That is, we know not to do those things from our computers. And hackers and cybercriminals know we know this, too. That's why they're targeting our smartphones.

Samsung will soon take its frenemy relationship with Google and Android to the next level. The company reportedly plans to launch its first Tizen smartphone early next year and while its efforts with this new platform will initially be local to the Far East, Samsung undoubtedly hopes it will grow into something more — and reinforcements will definitely help. Headed by both Samsung and Intel, the Tizen Association announced this week that it has added 36 new partners from “all segments of the mobile and connected device ecosystems” to help bolster the platform moving forward. New additions to the Tizen camp include eBay, Konami, McAfee, Panasonic, Sharp and TrendMicro, and the Association’s full press release follows below.
