This is basically a “tl;dr” version of my previous post on Node.js performance. The post below also appears on the Node.js blog.

In the first two parts i and ii of this series, I put together an initial model for node.js multiplayer tic-tac-toe game then bolted in a backbone.js controller framework, which allows clients to Backbone.Model.sync model states to backing server.

Node.js has taken the development community by storm in the last 12 months. It offers JavaScript on the server, meaning an entire application can be coded in JavaScript.

It’s no secret that I love NodeJS, though I really haven’t blogged about it much (if at all). Frankly, I think Node and NPM are going to be eating Ruby, RubyGems and Bundler’s $25,000 lunch – at least on OSX.

You are probably already aware of Node.JS, unless you've been living under a rock for the past year. It's a pretty ingenious project combining the extremely fast Google V8 JavaScript engine with a highly-optimized cross-platform asynchronous networking library (libuv). The next two paragraphs will be some rambling opinions on Node.JS coming from a Python and C hacker. Then we shall get down to writing tests.

I’ve been learning a new programming language the last few months, for the first time since the summer of 2009 when I spent a few months dabbling in Python.

I want to put a conservative ideology to rest: modern, high-level stacks like Ruby and Node.js are not just fads for code hipsters. This is so far from the truth that it makes me nauseous. One should be cautious about adapting new technologies…

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that this may not be the best time to issue a 1.1 edition of SPDY Book. Much of the new hotness that is node-spdy is in limbo until the unstable 0.7 node.js becomes stable 0.8. I almost have a handle on that except for express.js, the pleasant HTTP resource-oriented application server.

I've set up the Continuous Integration for PHP projects on Jenkins recently. It went quite well, but the fact that CI tools for PHP are not as mature as those for Java was obvious. (Most of the PHP CI tools are ports of their Java originals.)

The event-driven framework is the newest breed, and Node.js is the most popular in this category. You can use these frameworks to build traditional style Web applications, but the frameworks really excel with the single-page genre of Web applications. That is, Web applications which load a complete Web page once, and thereafter load data dynamically and manipulate the loaded page in memory, rather than making full-page round trips to the server for new pages.

So you have just received your raspberry pi and are thinking about running nodejs on it, good. Lets get started. I am assuming that you have pre-installed the debian flavoured distribution, have enough space and are up and running. If your having problems pop over to the Raspberry Pi Forums and they will be able to help you out!
