Monitor Node.js request count with Cacti

Monitor Node.js request count with Cacti | Nodejs-code | Scoop.it
The problem that arises from switching to Node.js is that one looses the ability to monitor web server’s request count. Fortunately there’s a really simple way to get it back. The first step is to modify your web server’s source code to store request count and the second one is to get Cacti to read that value.

Reverse Proxy Web Sockets with Nginx and Socket.IO

Reverse Proxy Web Sockets with Nginx and Socket.IO | Nodejs-code | Scoop.it

If you’re using Socket.io and want to reverse proxy your web socket connections, you’ll quickly find it’s somewhat difficult. Since web sockets are done over HTTP 1.1 connections (where the handshake and upgrade are completed), your backend needs to support HTTP 1.1, and from what I have researched, they break the HTTP 1.0 spec...

Simple Logging in tweeter.js

Simple Logging in tweeter.js | Nodejs-code | Scoop.it

tweeter.js is a simple OAuth implementation I started working on for a node.js application I had envisioned. The library works, as in it runs through the whole OAuth dance and allows the client to make API calls. There are some more in-depth things I never got around to (like caching the tokens and clearing sessions and whatnot) before I realized I don't like Twitter. Oh well.

NodeJS on Windows Part 2: using the Jade ViewEngine

Our node app that we created in part one is writing out our header "Hello World!" really well. But that's not really that cool. Plus, it doesn't scale. If we wanted to output more HTML we would find the current solution to be a giant pain in the ass.

Simple example - Node.js, Restify, MongoDb and Mongoose - Backbone.js Tutorials

This stack is great for rapid prototyping and highly intuitive. Personal note: I love using Javascript as my only language for the entire application(FrontEnd/BackEnd/API/Database). Restify is still in early development but is essentially just an extension of Express. So for anyone needing more stability you can easily just substitute Express in.

Automatically reload node.js files with Supervisor

One of the annoyances of Node.js for development purposes is the fact that you have to restart the server everytime you make changes to your included modules. This is because Node actually caches module includes for better performance. A great workaround is using the Node Module “Supervisor“.
