The bicycle basket = Der Fahrradkorb | Name News | Scoop.it
Das Bild zum Text findet man irgendwie immer zu spät. Heute: ein reichlich lädierter Fahrradkorb, der aber sicher noch treu seine Dienste verrichtet und gut z
Clare's insight:

The author is inspired by her trusty bike basket's name, Basil, and learns that the product name is a mashup of a surname and a place name.

My bike is called Mike, but I've never considered giving my basket a name...maybe mini-Mike?

Baby Names Daily: Annelia

"Right now there is a list of kids names on the wall at my daughter's gymnastics and I love when they do that because I am over there staring at the wall like a nerd for the whole hour trying sort through all these to find something new and unique.   Annelia has a very familiar sound to it and it also sounds very fancy to me.  Saying this name to myself I get a vision of a little rich girl who rides horses and lives in a mansion.  I know that's silly; it just sounds fancy like that to me.   It's very pretty.  I am guessing it's pronounced like Anna & Leah combined."

Clare's insight:

I think it looks very pretty, though I see several possible pronunciations (like Anna-Leah, rhyming with Amelia, or rhyming with Karelia).

Ask BabyNames.com: Created name: Sameric

My husband and I are trying to decide on a middle name for our son. We were thinking of honoring both of our fathers. Samuel & Eric. I came up with Sameric. Is this a terrible made up name or is this somewhere in the past an acutal name? What do you think?

The Baby Name Zoella? - Nancy's Baby Names

Is the name Zoella going to become trendy, thanks to a beauty blogger?
Clare's insight:
Hm, I suppose it is (more or less) to Zoe what Luella is to Lucy and Briella is to Bree. Though it might well be that the hits are due to curiosity rather than serious child-naming intentions.

Clare's insight:

Never mind the title; there are some good name stories here: smooshes, significant initials, and cultural connections.  And besides the children's names, I'm intrigued by the name of the father in the last story: Iliad Thor.  Iliad.  Not bad.

Ask BabyNames.com: Created name: Nicora

I just came across the baby name Nicora, and thought it was very unique but not too outlandish for a baby girl (albeit a bit more exotic than other daughters names’, Claire and Morgan). The name is not in your database.  Is Nicora a known first name for a girl or is this a made up name?

Clare's insight:

An interview with a lady named Reingard, an unusual name that to German ears does not sound particularly sweet, lovely, or stylish.  Reingard is fine with her name, though she has occasionally been mistaken for a man called Reinhard.  Also interesting is her son's name, Jonasio: it's a smoosh of his father's name (Joseph) and a Caribbean singer (Nasio).

Vladimir Nabarkevious - Daddy Types

Barkevious has a similar beginning to Reese's peanut butter cups. His father, Hugh Mingo, named two of Mingo's older brothers Hugh and Hughtavious. After that, his mother, Barbara Johnson, stepped in and combined the first three letters of her name with a name she liked -- Kevious.

"She didn't want any more of that," he said. "She wanted her name in there."

Luella: Baby Name of the Day - Appellation Mountain | Name News | Scoop.it
She's a quirky retro charmer, part-British aristocrat, part-Southern belle. If Lou names make a comeback, Luella could be one of the most stylish.
Clare's insight:

Interesting choice.  In my mind, Luella is juuust on the pivot point between unattractively old and attractively vintage.  This post might just tip it over the edge.
