As today is the vernal equinox, I decided to do a post on spring names. (Some of these mean "spring of water", but the image I get of those is one of springtime.) Unisex Aviv (Hebrew, "spring") Chun (Chinese, "spring") Haru (Japanese, "spring", "clear weather", or "light, sun, male") Haruka (Japanese, "spring" or…

Harvest isn't a common baby name, but it could be a great, seasonal middle, or even a bold first name choice for a baby born in the autumn.

At the end of the day, you choose the name you want for your children. After all, they’re YOUR children, but I am a firm believer in honouring your family if you can and I’m glad I did.

Over time we came to differentiate Summer-the-girl from summer-the-season, so much so that Summer once told a friend that her middle name was 'the girl'.

My favorite names for autumn go beyond some of the classic choices into names inspired by their meanings, colors, and connections to fall foods and activities. Some are surprising, some are spot-on, and a few are, well, just a little bit of a stretch. After all, a little imagination could be just what you need to find that perfect name this season.

How do you feel about calendar names and whether or not they coincide with the time of year when a baby is born? I know an April born in September and an Autumn born in midwinter, but also a Natalie born on Christmas Day. I feel that names like this should fit somewhat with the season of birth (if June is born a few weeks early, the parents shouldn't have to change her name to May, for example). A friend, however, thinks this is cheesy and names that fit too well with the season or month of birth should be avoided. Can you settle our debate?

Blessed Ostara, or Eostre if you prefer!
Ostara is a holiday based on ancient Germanic traditions and takes place on the Vernal Equinox. This time of year is synonymous with rebirth and rejuvenation in many spiritual traditions. Night and day are balanced, and the Earth is starting to awake from her winter slumber.

Winter is the coldest season, and the hottest baby name borrowed from the calendar. It's more popular for girls, but this name could work for boys, too.

My son was born on June 23 which is the date of summer arrival in lunar calendar. I would like to give him a meaningful name “Summer” but my hubby think it’s a girl name. Is it only for girl? If a boy name Summer, is it weird?

I added Primeviere *see on list of posts* not long ago. Its meaning and name itself comes from Primavera and this name is much more common with people. The name and meanings are fresh and lovely just like spring. It’s just a lovely whimsical name.

Summer is the perfect time to have a baby. Admittedly, it is really hot. And, humid. And, some hospitals don’t have air conditioning. And, you feel about 1000x hotter than normal because pregnancy transforms you into a human furnace to keep that little sweetie cosy inside.

This is a little bit late! It's spring now, though it certainly doesn't feel like it here. One day it's cold and the next muggy. We just had a short rain, and it felt like a shower out there. I've always liked spring, despite my poor allergies and the unruly weather, as I'm a spring baby myself.
