Tasked with choosing a name that would suit a 22nd century king, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided to stick with tradition by naming their son George Alexander Louis.
Clare's insight:
Oh go on, just a little bit more about that family name. Well, this doesn't happen every day.
"The waiting has finally ended. I feel like I've been on the edge of my seat ever since Duchess Catherine's pregnancy was announced."
Clare's insight:
This includes a handy round-up of all the announcements on the top name blogs so far.
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, and his wife Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, welcomed their first child on July 22, and have named their son George Alexander Louis, Prince of Cambridge....
Clare's insight:
Very well predicted! (http://waltzingmorethanmatilda.com/2012/12/23/the-historical-naming-of-british-monarchs)
The latest addition to the Royal Family has been named George. But how influential are royal baby names?
Clare's insight:
Worth a look at this chart: it's like the England & Wales version of Name Voyager for royal names. Points of interest include the fall and rise of Harry and (to a lesser extent) Charles, and the decline of Andrew and Anne (for now, at least).
After introducing their new prince to the world yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared the royal baby's name today. Like Queen Elizabeth II, the baby has three names — George Alexander Louis.
Clare's insight:
Don't be put off by the URL: thre are some informative snippets of recent royal name history.
"The oddsmakers were right! London betting houses had George as a favorite for the name of the future king from the beginning, and the royal parents came through."
Clare's insight:
Also: "The name George was completely predictable -- which is completely appropriate. You want your ceremonial monarchy to be predictable. At its best, the monarchy represents heritage, continuity, and the nation's unique spirit."
:-) Oh Laura, you're making me come over all patriotic.
All of the speculation was correct! The new Prince of Cambridge, heir to the throne behind his grandfather and father, is named George Alexander Louis.
De zoon van William en Kate, hertog en hertogin van Cambridge, heet George Alexander Louis. Bij officiële gelegenheden wordt hij aangeduid als Zijne Koninklijke Hoogheid Prins George van Cambridge.
Clare's insight:
No translation needed on this occasion.
"... George Alexander Louis. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (That's Will and Kate if you are on familiar terms) have released the name of their new baby -- third in line to the throne. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, according to a BBC report. "
Totally called George :) But it was to be expected really, given how much the name George is intertwined with the British Royal Family - we had four King Georges on the trot and the current Queen's...

Hadley Richardson was Ernest Hemingway's spotlight-averse first wife. She's inspired plenty of parents to borrow her tailored name for a daughter.
One theory on why we see certain baby names as masculine and others as feminine.

I had just finished posting an article at 12:56 PM about six boy's names I thought might be or should be under consideration for the royal baby. After pressing "publish" I decided to check my e-mai...
"Royal names can define a generation. So imagine the pressure on the new parents to pick the right one!"

If like me, you have just weeks until your little one arrives, then you may be experiencing the same heated discussions taking place in our household - and all because we cannot agree on a name for our son-to-be.
Clare's insight:
I chuckled at the advice to "Try and secure yourself as chief decision maker – early on".
The Prince is here, and he is George Alexander Louis. Buckingham Palace's announcement brought months of global baby-naming frenzy to a close.
We know now! He’s here, and he’s named. As predicted, the future king of England is GEORGE!!! (I really cried it from the hilltops too — whew). His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. - See more at: http://www.youcantcallitit.com/2013/07/24/george-alexander-louis-future-king/#sthash.gDLhzoYX.dpuf

Agreed, the names still seem a little strange together, even knowing they both for grandmothers.
