I have a tiny philological issue with the assertion that 'this is where the word "mead" comes from', as I believe it's a cognate rather than a descendant, but that's not to detract from the main post.

Several thoughts about this post:

1. How interesting, I hadn't heard of Fanny Adams before.

2. As a Briton, I agree with Lou that Fanny is a bit risqué, though I have met a real British Fanny (full name Stefana), and one originally from Nigeria.

3. My unerstanding is that "frank" did once literally mean "free" or "free man" (like franklin)
