We’re naming the baby after Noel Edmonds!

We’re naming the baby after Noel Edmonds! | Name News | Scoop.it

"In my darkest hour I found genuine solace in the fact that a one-in-22 shot was enough to keep Noel Edmonds in gainful employment for almost a decade. I tried to convince myself that we stood a pretty good chance."

Clare's insight:

It's just a little bit about names, but still.

Also, while not intending to trivialise this article, it reminded me of the Gavin and Stacey episode where the baby is christened Neil Noel Edmund Jenkins, and Gavin teases Smithy that he's named his son after Noel Edmonds, to Smithy's great indignation.  Ah, good times.

I can't possibly call my child Godred, I'm not Gwyneth Paltrow

""Congratulations. In the last thousand years, you’ve found one single Godred who has successfully made it to adulthood. Who knows how many others perished in the playground - cut down in their prime by gangs of vindictive Jasons, Kevins and Darrens?" "

Clare's insight:

A fun find via Anna of Waltzing More Than Matilda.  This child will be eight by now - I really wonder what his name turned out to be!

Dad of four: why you must do your homework when it comes to baby names - Telegraph | Name News | Scoop.it
Of course, what I want to say is: "You idiot! How could you not have done your research and found out that Arthur has leapt dangerously from 82 to 43 on the Office for National Statistics rankings over the last three years. How could you not have scoured the Telegraph births column every day to ensure your chosen name is delicately balanced between the mundanity of "George, a brother for Thomas" and the lunacy of "Zebedee Ebenezer Jay, a brother for Badger, Clementine and Florence". This is amateurism of the first order. I will struggle to be true friends with you if you seriously thought Arthur was a name fashion had forgot."
Clare's insight:

Ha!  Exactly.
