Yay Russian names! I'm no expert, but I visited Russia a few years ago, and the names I encountered there have really stuck with me. It was a wonderful melting pot of Russian-language favourites (half the women and girls I met seemed to be called Anastasia) and names from Persian, Arabic and local languages like Tatar and Bashkir. Omnomnom.

Elif, the second most popular girls' name in Turkey, has really grown on me since I first heard it a few months ago - it's lovely, isn't it?

Côté garçon, Louis, Adam et Sacha ont la cote. Chez les filles, les Léa, Louise et Chloé sont les plus nombreuses. Du moins, ce sont les tendances liégeoises car, à Bruxelles, le top 3 est quelque peu différent avec Adam, Imran et Mohammed chez les garçons, et Lina, Malak et Sarah chez les filles.

I flipping love Iceland for lots of reasons, not least of which is the names they use. Yes, Icelanders like Emma and Eva and Alexander and Daniel like the rest of us. But they're also calling their children Guðrún and Hrafnhildur and Sigurður and Jökull and other very very Icelandic names. Looks like we might have to wait till November to find out the 2014 stats.

Here's interesting: the top pets' names in the Netherlands in 2013. We can only see the top 5, but the cats' names at least seem less person-namey than lists I've seen for English-speaking countries.
