L’une des solutions pour contrer des drones FPV [First Person View – pilotage en immersion] dotés d’une charge explosive repose sur des moyens de guerre électronique, l’idée étant de brouiller leur réception des signaux de géolocalisation par satellite [GPS] et/ou de couper la liaison avec leurs opérateurs.

Seulement, cette parade ne fonctionne pas à tous les coups, d’autant plus que, quand ils ne sont pas filoguidés, c’est-à-dire reliés à leurs télépilotes par câble à fibres optiques, les drones sont de plus en plus résilients au brouillage électronique, grâce, en partie, à l’intelligence artificielle.

Aussi, l’armée ukrainienne a équipé ses combattants de fusils de chasse afin de leur permettre, en dernier recours, de se défendre contre les drones FPV. Si les plombs d’une cartouche de chevrotine peuvent déstabiliser de tels engins, jusqu’à les faire chuter, une telle arme a cependant une portée assez limitée. En outre, elle vient alourdir la charge portée par un fantassin.

D’où l’intérêt de la munition développée par Brave 1, la plateforme d’innovation ukrainienne dédiée à l’armement. En effet, celle-ci est au calibre 5,56 x 45 mm, ce qui fait qu’elle est compatible avec les fusils d’assaut en service au sein de l’Otan.

Les détails techniques n’ont pas été révélés par Brave 1. Cela étant, la plateforme a toutefois expliqué que cette munition est dotée d’une « ogive spéciale » qui se « désintègre » en plusieurs fragments à l’approche de sa cible. La production aurait d’ores et déjà été lancée, l’objectif étant que chaque fantassin puisse en disposer suffisamment pour contrer la menace des drones FPV, a-t-elle avancé.

« Un avantage potentiel réside dans le fait que la munition est fabriquée dans un calibre standard Otan, ce qui, compte tenu de la menace potentielle des drones pour toutes les forces terrestres de l’Alliance, pourrait constituer une option intéressante pour leur protection rapprochée. Une fois que cette munition aura fait ses preuves sur le champ de bataille, l’Ukraine pourrait exporter cette technologie ou conclure un partenariat avec un fabricant européen pour sa production en série », a résumé le journal Kyiv Post.

À noter que le fabricant allemand de munitions RWS a récemment dévoilé une cartouche de calibre 7,62 x 51 mm Otan développée pour la lutte antidrone. Appelée « Urban Drone Defense » [UDD] et dotée d’une balle en polymère, elle se décline en deux versions : UDD LIGHT pour les courtes distances [100 mètres] et UDD HEAVY, pour les plus longues [300 mètres]. Elle permettrait de neutraliser les « drones de fabrication artisanale et commerciaux en zone urbaine, tout en minimisant le danger pour l’environnement et les personnes », assure l’industriel.
