Lawmakers are considering a bill that would bring requirements such as teacher-student ratios, which public schools that have traditional buildings and classrooms already adhere to, to bear for their online counterparts. That bill has not yet made it to either chamber of the Legislature for a floor vote.

The Alliancefor Excellent Education’s Center for Secondary School Digital Learning and Policy invites any and all teachers, schools, districts, states and other organizations such as libraries, afterschool programs or community-based organizations to submit proposals to be considered for our work leading up to Digital Learning Day 2013. Such activities may include being showcased on our site, hosting a school visit, being highlighted in a case study, having an opportunity for a teacher to be a guest blogger, developing tips of the day, or the potential to be featured in other ways leading up to Digital Learning Day 2013 on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Submissions are due no later than April 27th.

Taking steps to ensure a common sense approach to New Jersey’s system of education funding and to root out abuse and fraud, Acting Governor Kim Guadagno today named seven representatives from the public and private sectors as members of the New Jersey Education Funding Task Force. Created by Executive Order in March, the Task Force will evaluate the effectiveness of the Free and Reduced Price School Lunch Program as a proxy for measuring “at risk” students and, more broadly, make recommendations to address areas of the school funding formula that may be subject to manipulation, fraud, or distortion, including municipal tax abatement programs.
