Huge ZeroAccess botnet disrupted by Microsoft

Huge ZeroAccess botnet disrupted by Microsoft | Internet of Things - Company and Research Focus | Scoop.it
Microsoft Corp says it has disrupted the world's largest network of compromised personal computers, involving 2 million machines used to defraud advertisers out of millions each month.
Richard Platt's insight:

We are heartened and hopeful to see MSFT get tough on crime, and assist LEO's in getting the bad guys.  However we also note  that it is too bad we don't see more from the likes of Google, Yahoo, and others to assist in curbing this kind criminal behavior instead of caving into the all the clandestine goverrnment agencies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Intelligence_Community)  demands for access to data, since in both cases they are a blight against all who use the internet.

These internet conglomerates also have an obligation to the WWW community as a whole to be actively involved in helping address these kinds of issues since they control so much of people's access to information and knowledge.  They may think they do not have such an obligation, but we disagree.

There is a better way to get at the criminals and terrorists but it is not by co-opting the privacy of law abiding citizens,

Study shows how water dissolves stone, molecule by molecule

Study shows how water dissolves stone, molecule by molecule | Internet of Things - Company and Research Focus | Scoop.it
Richard Platt's insight:

(from the Curator of Iot & Wearabels): This reminded me of some kind of pithy Zen statement about being patient and perservering, nonetheless it turns out there is a science at a physical level to tearing down rocks with water,

Also true I might add when it comes to being a relentless pain in the ass when it comes to being a Corpoate Innovation Change Agent, seems that there are rules to this, tearing strips off the status quo, one individual argument at a time.  - Remember folks, for those that don' know I got and kept my job at Intel by arguing and being right about innovation methods, because like the US Army, Intel's debate, better known as constructive confrontation is like full contact Rugby, (not tennis as it is in many companies) only the toughest argument wins and that is closest to being right gets across the goal line, and that is as it should be.  So few companies allow open debate on technical and business matters when they should and that is a shame.  Because as I tell my teams, do not always agree with me, give a me contrarian point of view on what you know, otherwise one of us is redundant. The best idea should always win.

Richard Platt's insight:

(from the Curator of Iot & Wearabels): Excellent idea for my buds in Semiconductor R&D, this is about increasing the density of the silicon layers with piezo electric material that prevents electrons from doing their little leakage dance off the trace.Nice job, a bunch more came to mind on how to do this when I thought about it, so this isn't the only solution for 10nm and beyond.

How Intel TV failed -- pay attention, Google and Apple

How Intel TV failed -- pay attention, Google and Apple | Internet of Things - Company and Research Focus | Scoop.it
analysis Intel aspired to revolutionize cable and satellite with Web TV. Just because it failed doesn't mean Apple, Google, and the rest will too -- but they're no closer to a happy ending. Read this article by Joan E.
Richard Platt's insight:

(from the Curator of IoT & Wearables):

The Lesson: Not a completely unfair analysis, Basically "Stay in Your Swim Lane, unless you have leverage (Large Screen TV's and cutting deals w/ a # of media companies that are notoriously a pain in the backside to deal with - we could ask Steve Jobs how tough that was that is until he had the recording industry before he cut the deal w; them to make iTunes actually work)

However this analysis leaves out one BIG THING, Intel cut loose this when it became clear they couldn't make it work, and killing stratgic moves or even innovation tactics is a sign of a mature company knowing what they do well and what they don't  It was the right call to cut this program.  Lesson's were probably well learned from this, that is if my alma mater does the necessary after action review that I am pretty sure CEO Brian Krzanich is likely doing right now w/ his senior managers.

"Word mapping" analysis shows that Apple is losing its luster by straying from the principles that made the company great
Richard Platt's insight:

(from the Curator of IoT & Wearables): This rather condemning article on Apple from a beloved fan of the company has merit, and should act as a call to CXO's / Senior VP's / Managers in other high tech firms, don't have a Kodak moment, (their failuire to adapt and actually innovate) which is now likely to get a new moniker with don't have an Apple moment.  Because Steve ain't around anymore to save your bacon and get you back on the innovation bandwagon again.

A fleet of 130 virtual electric cars is set to commence on the roads of Munich, Germany.
Richard Platt's insight:

(from the Curator of IoT & Wearables): More validation of virtual simulation being a necessary 1st step in proto-typing and design, so many companies miss this in thier development actiivity.  Been a propoonent of this for over a decade since I worked on the 777 and used the "Fly Through" tool at Boeing.  MIT prof Michael Schrage has also been advocating the same approach.

Modeling Processes Depends on Your Application

Modeling Processes Depends on Your Application | Internet of Things - Company and Research Focus | Scoop.it
The modeling and simulation of various manufacturing processes is important because, in many cases, it’s impractical or even impossible to measure the specific operating parameters involved that contribute to the resulting products.
Richard Platt's insight:

(from the Curator of Iot & Wearabels): Excellent point on modeling any application, it depends on the tools and the process you're evaluating, one size does not fit all.  I've seen this issue far too many times and it only hurts companies innovativeness and time to market because of it.

Richard Platt's insight:

We almost didn't scoop this, because of the potential for claims of sexism in my curation of high tech topics but after further review of the article, well we just have to give it up for the designers over at MSFT for developing GRASP - that's Generic Remote Sensing Platform for all of you thinking the wrong thing.

This wearable product technology is intended for ladies to be able monitor their emotional state and thus manage their weight because of its mood sensing capabilties.

We have no comment to make regarding GRASP and this wonder bra that senses your emotional state. So ladies please tell us whether or not you'd buy/ use such a wearable tech?
