We are heartened and hopeful to see MSFT get tough on crime, and assist LEO's in getting the bad guys. However we also note that it is too bad we don't see more from the likes of Google, Yahoo, and others to assist in curbing this kind criminal behavior instead of caving into the all the clandestine goverrnment agencies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Intelligence_Community) demands for access to data, since in both cases they are a blight against all who use the internet.
These internet conglomerates also have an obligation to the WWW community as a whole to be actively involved in helping address these kinds of issues since they control so much of people's access to information and knowledge. They may think they do not have such an obligation, but we disagree.
There is a better way to get at the criminals and terrorists but it is not by co-opting the privacy of law abiding citizens,
