Since launching the Green Bond Program in 2010, IFC remains one of the world’s most prolific issuers of green bonds. IFC was the first issuer ever to list a billion-dollar green bond which was heralded as a landmark transaction in the global market. It proved that green bonds are a scalable product and appeal to investors worldwide.
This is a little bit challenging for most post-16 economists - but it highlights the growth of the market for green bonds and might allow for an interesting discussion of what bonds are, and their purpose in the modern economy.
