International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge

International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge | information analyst | Scoop.it

"Some of science's most powerful statements are not made in words. From the diagrams of DaVinci to Rosalind Franklin's X-rays, visualization of research has a long and literally illustrious history. To illustrate is to enlighten.

How many people would have heard of fractal geometry or the double helix or solar flares if they had been described solely in words? In a world where science literacy is dismayingly rare, illustrations provide the most immediate and influential connection between scientists and other citizens, and the best hope for nurturing popular interest. Indeed, they are now a necessity for public understanding of research developments.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the journal Science created the International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge to celebrate that grand tradition--and to encourage its continued growth. The spirit of the competition is for communicating science, engineering and technology for education and journalistic purposes."

Looking for influence- Peerindex- Influence based analytics

Looking for influence- Peerindex- Influence based analytics | information analyst | Scoop.it

Peerindex- Influence based marketing will be important but few people have tons of influence drowning out the rest.

A step in the right direction compared to limitations in soultions like Klout.

As business reinvents it's culture  around social media inbound marketing it will be important for these organisations to identify the audience on social media within their reach, extracting intelligence on which are the key influencers with relevant social capital  , and then reverse engineer marketing programs creating relevant context based content that activates desired responses and outcomes. But where are the tools? The issue with influence analytic tools is that they find the big fish in asymmetrical networks where broadcasts rather than conversation are taking place and the social network influence objects around interactions are not measured and extracted. How helpful to businesses is it to analyse the celebrity, news networks and leading blogger names in domains? If context, such as location, and interest relevance can be harvested it certainly is a step foreward but I don't think it's not enough

The Content Economy: The collaboration pyramid (or iceberg)

The Content Economy: The collaboration pyramid (or iceberg) | information analyst | Scoop.it

The majority of the value-creation activities in an enterprise are hidden. They happen below the surface. What we see when we think of collaboration in the traditional sense (structured team-based collaboration) is the tip of the iceberg – teams who are coordinating their actions to achieve some goal. We don’t see - and thus don’t recognize - all the activities which have enabled the team to form and which help them throughout their journey. We see the people in the team, how they coordinate their actions and the results of their actions, but we rarely see the other things which have been critical for their success. For example, we don’t see how they have used their personal networks to access knowledge, information and skills which they don’t have in their team already but which are instrumental for their success.
