Social Media: The Core Of Entity Search

Social Media: The Core Of Entity Search | information analyst | Scoop.it

Let’s review an important breakout area of search called Entity Search. I suggest watching Dan Shure’s video about entity search for a good explanation.

Google is creating a new database separate from their text index that consists of entities and attributes.

This method of searching by entities is undoubtedly the future of search marketing in order to deliver more relevant results.

This means that users define what they like and what they want to see, as opposed to what marketers force into their streams.

See the difference?

Buyer's Guide: Content Delivery Networks

Buyer's Guide: Content Delivery Networks | information analyst | Scoop.it

Over the past year, as pricing in the sector has reached a commoditized level, the definition of a content delivery network (CDN) has started to change. As pricing competition has narrowed their differentiation, CDNs have started to focus on the value-added parts of their propositions. If you call Akamai Technologies or Limelight Networks a CDN, company reps will do their best to point out that distribution is only a part of their services.

This means that while we can track pricing to some extent, as Dan Rayburn famously does at http://blog.streamingmedia.com, it is becoming difficult to simply buy data transfer services from CDNs. These companies like to offer a richer range of services than pure byte-shifting. Each CDN now has its own online video platform (OVP), which provides content management and user interfaces. Each offers some form of relationship with advertising partners, and so on and so forth.

Still, there is a fairly clear set of key performance indicators (KPIs) for anyone who wants to engage the services of these companies. These are outlined in the accompanying chart.

Information Literacy in the Workplace

Information Literacy in the Workplace | information analyst | Scoop.it
A number of studies have demonstrated the problems with insufficient information literacy in the workplace. Bill Boyd (2005) estimates that in a 1,000 person organisation, if you eliminate five minutes of wasted time, such as deleting and organising emails, looking for information that you can't find, or recreating information that already exists, you will save $4,167; if you do that everyday for a year, the organisation will have saved more than $1 million.

NeuroLex; Wiki+ Neuroscience Specialized Search engine

NeuroLex; Wiki+ Neuroscience Specialized Search engine | information analyst | Scoop.it

Welcome to NeuroLex, the Neuroscience Lexicon.

A dynamic lexicon of 18,100 neuroscience terms , including 281 neurons and 1044 brain regions,

supported by The Neuroscience Information Framework and the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility.

NeuroLex.org is a freely editable semantic wiki for community-based curation of the terms used in Neuroscience.

It is a joint project of the Neuroscience Information Framework and the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility.

This Wiki takes advantage of the Semantic Mediawiki software and the Halo Extension and has loaded all the NIF ontology classes.

Many of the annotation properties associated with those classes have been tagged with properties here.

Restrictions have not yet been ported over.

However, in this current version, most classes just have the NIF id and the parent class/category associated with them.

The Wiki version of the NIF encodes classes as "categories", as in the standard Wikipedia. These class categories themselves have editable pages. This therefore allows anyone to update the definitions of the classes.

This Wiki also allows other "instance" articles to be tagged with those classes. Properties between classes or between "instance" articles can be defined as well.

This allows individual terms within "instance" articles to be tagged with these properties. There are a few examples of this below.

By tagging parts of a page with a property, a query mechanism can reshuffle the data within those pages in tables or by generating.....
