This move by India’s youth could be a nightmare for every nightclub owner.
Imagine this: Friday night in Mumbai, no shots, or smoke, just 200 people barefoot, hands in the air, chanting “Hare Krishna” to a bass drop.
Yes, that’s bhajan clubbing, India’s newest nightlife revolution.
What started in late 2022 with small baithaks by collectives like Backstage Siblings (Prachi Agarwal & Raghav Agarwal, CFA) has now exploded into regular, ticketed events across 10+ Indian cities.
Each session draws 150–500 people, sells out fast, and replaces vodka with chai.
Why it’s blowing up → Because Gen Z is done with copy-paste Western club culture. They don’t want another DJ loop, but want Govinda beats that make them feel something.
Here are the numbers to back my hypothesis-
- India’s ₹5 lakh crore spirituality & wellness economy is now growing faster than the traditional nightlife market.
- Alcohol and nightclub spending among affluent 18–35-year-olds has dropped 15–20% since 2022.
- Sober, spiritual nights are the new cool, Tea Trunk and Living Food. are already sponsoring them.
Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata all see weekly events now.
Even globally, there’s Ecstatic Dance in Bali, Mantra Movement in LA, and Sound Healing Nights in London.
Clips of “Shri Krishna Govind Hari” sing-alongs have pulled millions of views, spreading like wildfire across reels and wellness feeds.
This is India localising spirituality and turning it into collective joy.
And if the world’s next big rave happens under incense smoke and Sanskrit mantras… Don’t be surprised.
It’ll just be India exporting soul. | 271 comments on LinkedIn
