Open education resources (OER) are a free and easy way to utilize the Internet for teaching and learning. Over 70% of teachers consider free content as the most important factor when evaluating the quality of content to use in their classrooms. With budget constraints in most districts forcing teachers to be very selective with their purchases, grade-level, content-specific resources at no cost are invaluable. One such resource our school has begun using is Khan Academy for PSAT and SAT preparation. I am very Dutch (read: cheap) so as an administrator I know I will always be looking for high quality at the lowest possible price. OER provides a great way to engage and teach students at no additional cost, and administrators should ensure that teachers are aware and taking advantage of this cyber gift.
