The Path to Digital Citizenship

The Path to Digital Citizenship | iGeneration - 21st Century Education (Pedagogy & Digital Innovation) | Scoop.it
I've written and taught about digital citizenship for several years. And, while the term is new in our lexicon, the meaning spans generations. The simple acts of carrying oneself in a civil, appropri
Mitchell Forrest Enerson's curator insight, May 21, 2014 1:45 PM

What it is basically saying is that you need to carry yourself appropriately online. It is the same as how you would act in school or a normal setting. It's related to the government because it shows that the government will treat what you do online just as they treat you for your actions in person. Being a good citizen whether it's in person or online.

Arlyna Garza's curator insight, February 6, 2021 6:57 PM

Digital Citizenship might be difficult to comprehend for some, but this article describes how we can become better users of technology on the internet.

Cynthia Cuellar's curator insight, June 12, 2022 5:39 PM
I loved how this article describes digital citizenship as Digital Health and Wellness.  I think we should rename digital citizenship to Digital Health and Wellness because through the years we have seen our children become affected by what is published on social media and the web.  I agree with the author that Digital Citizenship is part of our overall wellness.  I agree with the article that students need to learn the realities of surfing the web and being on social media before they begin their online activities.  Beginning in elementary school is a good place to start teaching our students at an early age.

Manda Pahl's curator insight, April 17, 2014 12:09 AM

This video explains digital citizenship and how it would benefit schools. Digital citizenship is similar to drivers ed classes where students learn the ropes of the internet and how to safely browse it. Since many young students are allowed ipads and other devices at school, these courses may be necessary and effective later down the road.

Alex Salazar's comment, April 20, 2014 1:20 AM
This is interesting, I never really though about digital citizenship.
Madison Blazing's comment, April 20, 2014 1:35 AM
This was very interesting and it helped me understand the concept of digital citizenship much better. I have to agree that considering the fast paced growth of technology advancements in our society, having informational courses about how to safely navigate these devices may be beneficial. I would not be surprised if these classes do become implemented in the nearby future as more schools begin to adopt more policies that allow more freedom with these devices in the classrooms.
