6 Great Posters on Bullying

These are great posters about bullying to use in your schools.  We can print these posters at CESA 5 if you are interested.

jhenehan's curator insight, October 13, 2013 12:22 PM

This is an interesting representation about "safebook/facebook" and the ways in which one should share information. It shows people the ways in which to be safe while on facebook. The poster shows how you should think about what your posting before you post it. It reminds you to always be kind to others and to connect only with people that you know. Privacy is also very important. Make sure your settings on your facebook are very private. It also shows that people should report bullying and not just let it go. Bullying is a big problem, especially on social media.

This was a great visual about statistics of bullying.

-28% of students ages 12-18 were bullied in 2008/2009 school year.

-Different forms of bullying. Made fun of, rumors, pushing, threatening, cyberbullying, excluded, forced, and even property destroyed.

-It mentions how people who are bullied are more liekly to have deppression symptoms, harm themselves, and suicidal thoughts.

- It gives you a number to call if you think someone may need help.

-Also, many people are too scared to speak out because of threats, retaliation, and others reactions to them.

-The article mentions to be more than just a bystander.

I personally feel that I learned a lot from this. It is something that I can use as a future educator. It made me aware of the bullying statistics and how important it is for parents to also be involved and to be aware of the growing problems.

Online Bullying Just As Harmful for Children As Offline --Doctors Lounge

Online Bullying Just As Harmful for Children As Offline --Doctors Lounge | iGeneration - 21st Century Education (Pedagogy & Digital Innovation) | Scoop.it
Shelby Hughes's curator insight, November 17, 2014 11:25 AM

Either we have all experienced online bullying or have seen our peers being attacked by an online bully. Did you say anything when you saw a cruel injustice? Did anyone stand up for you? Each and everyday there is a post or tweet directed to hurt someone; a passive-aggressive killer.

The bystanders in this situation are those who see the abuse and choose to scroll passed it and not give aid to the individual (Myers, 2014) Studies show that the chances of the bystander effect decrease in a dangerous situation (Fischer, P., Krueger, J. I., Greitemeyer, T., Vogrincic, C., Kastenmüller, A., Frey, D., & ... Kainbacher, M. (2011). The bystander-effect: A meta-analytic review on bystander intervention in dangerous and non-dangerous emergencies. Psychological Bulletin, 137(4), 517-537. doi:10.1037/a0023304). It is suggested that it may be explained with the "Arousal- Cost Reward Model" Fischer, at el. 2011). So in a situation that there is no direct danger the chances of aid are diminished (Fischer at el. 2011).

Online bullying is not a clearly recognized as a dangerous situation and it can therefor be inferred that there is a higher chance that the bystander effect will take place (Myers, 2014). This is in fact a dangerous situation as there is a higher rate of suicide and absence from school from those affected by online bullying (Holt, 2014).

Will we simply stand by as others are being attacked by online bullying?
