Open RAN is a shift in mobile network architecture from a closed vendor environment to an open, intelligent, and programmable one. Open RAN enables vendors, service providers, and developers to deploy innovative services as radio access network (RAN) applications that take advantage of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

23 countries have pre-commercial 5G trials underway, while 32 countries have announced their 5G intentions. As for the remaining 48 countries, many are smaller island nations that have not publicly announced plans for 5G. 18 countries – including two of the largest developing economies, India and Mexico – announced their first 5G deployments in 2022. Emerging economies included Angola, Ethiopia, and Guatemala.

It is important to note that IT/OT convergence is a natural process of technological development and systems integration. Increasingly, we have observed a great synergy between the two areas in such a way that they evolve to the detriment of common objectives: control, monitoring and process management. Therefore, the concept of convergence tends to capture best practices in each major area (IT and OT) and apply procedures to optimize routine processes and tasks.

Digital identity is a key enabler of financial inclusion and economic development. It can help to verify the identity of individuals, making it easier for them to access banking services, government benefits, and other digital services without having to visit a physical location. The digital revolution has brought numerous benefits to Africa, including access to internet services and online shopping. But the adoption and use of digital identity in Africa have been slow, hindering progress towards fully embracing the digital economy. The factors hindering this progress include:

Engagée envers l’inclusion digitale, Tunisie Telecom étend la couverture haut débit jusqu’au cœur du Sahara. Ainsi une équipe d’experts traverse les dunes pour connecter le désert tunisien au monde armés de la technologie VSAT. Celle-ci permet de se connecter à internet par satellite. Une connexion internet haut débit permettra aux populations isolées et aux aventuriers du désert de se connecter à internet. De ce fait, Tunisie Telecom relie les sites isolés et éloignés via l’Offre VSAT

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s initiative to provide fast, affordable broadband to communities around the world that are currently unserved or underserved by traditional internet and communications options. To achieve this goal, Amazon will deploy thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) linked to a global network of antennas, fiber, and internet connection points on the ground.

Sierra Space, a leading pureplay commercial space company building the first end-to-end business and technology platform in space, announced today that it has formed a long-term strategic partnership with ILC Dover, the leading provider of softgoods technologies and spacesuits. The partnership will accelerate the on-orbit installation of affordable and high-volume LIFE™ (Large Integrated Flexible Environment) inflatable modules that will be the catalyst for the commercialization of space leveraging the Sierra Space platform. The two companies have also partnered to design the next generation of spacesuits for both extra- and intra-vehicular activity (EVA and IVA).

Vodafone and DOCOMO acknowledge that responsibility lies with the operators to improve the journey and have committed to bringing their automated scripts and test solutions to the table. Based on several years’ experience, both companies recommend appropriate paths for a vendor to take depending on which part of the Open RAN jigsaw they are developing. It is hoped this will help vendors automate their own scripts to rapidly check that their O-RU/O-DU interfaces are compliant. This will give them confidence that their product is ready for interoperability testing at either an operator or community-led lab, avoiding any unnecessary delay.

The commercial deployment of 5G will facilitate many new and enhanced applications and services. It will also facilitate an emerging 5G MVNO opportunity that will enable existing players to improve and enhance their services as well as create opportunities for completely new purpose-built MVNOs, focused primarily on Business-to-Business(B2B) services. Many of these B2B services will leverage unique capabilities introduced with 5G technology.
For example, 5G will facilitate a significant expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) operations for cellular-based Mobile Network Operators (MNO). 5G enabled IoT WAN networks will support massive machine-type communications, providing substantially greater operational scalability for IoT services.

Cellcom, a cellular provider in Israel, and Parallel Wireless have chosen to partner in conducting experiments that will test the Open RAN 5G technology. When successful, it will provide an open network architecture, giving the company more flexibility in cellular network deployments while also providing smoother upgrades in the future.

Unlike 5G NSA that still relies on a 4G LTE core, 5G SA uses a dedicated 5G core that can unlock capabilities like faster upload speeds, ultra-low latency, ultra-high reliability and edge functions. This technology will be key to business opportunities like the next generation of connected cars.

Traditionally, even within the same enterprise, operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) represented separate domains with different components, objectives, characteristics, management practices, challenges, and organizational and reporting structures. While OT typically focused on the safe operation and control of physical devices and processes, IT typically focuses on data, information, information management, and communications. ITOT convergence is being seen and felt in companies across the world.

The free tools are the first of their kind, custom-built to amplify the voice of clinicians and end-users in the decision-making process for a healthcare organisation’s digital identity strategy.

The GroundBreaker is the first of a 250 LEO satellite constellation, which will work as cell towers from space. Users can seamlessly switch from a terrestrial to a non-terrestrial 5G network, with no need to purchase any extra hardware, such as antennas or modems. Also, they can keep using their current sim cards and mobile operators, thanks to the standard roaming agreements carried out by Sateliot. This eases the way to a massive Internet of Things adoption worldwide.

OQ Technology a annoncé le 17 avril un contrat commercial de près d’un million d’euros portant sur l’utilisation de la première constellation mondiale de satellites en orbite basse pour fournir une couverture 5G aux appareils de l’internet des objets (IoT).

Axiom Space, a leader in human spaceflight and architect of the world’s first commercial space station, is launching the Axiom Space Access Program, designed to enable countries to realize long-term economic and scientific value in microgravity today, without the need to build or expand their own infrastructure such as on-orbit facilities, launch vehicles, medical or training programs, and support capabilities.

Open RAN progress, both as an ideological movement and a specific set of interoperable, standards-based technologies, was on display this year at Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona. Evidenced by ongoing advancements from an ever-growing pool of vendors working collaboratively, and by operator announcements for both greenfield and brownfield deployment, the hype is quickly turning into a commercial reality. But as with any new technology, opportunities also come with challenges.

For nearly a decade now the MVNO Market has been under intense competitive pressure. The average revenue per user (ARPU) has fallen significantly, forcing MVNOs to look for ways to stand out, digitalize, innovate, and create new revenue sources.
