Taking a “phygital” approach to customer engagement might just be the answer to marketers’ prayers when it comes to creating meaningful, content-driven experiences craved by Gen Z audiences. For example, Marketing Week recently offered a glimpse of how retailers like Caspar and Nike are delivering on shoppers’ heightened expectations for customized service by launching pop-up stores and augmented reality features that merge the benefits of their online and offline shopping environments.

Despite the desire of businesses to use AI to improve customer experiences, consumers themselves aren’t as comfortable with the use of AI. Only 36% of European consumers are comfortable with companies using AI toe personalise experiences, and just 49% trust brands to keep their personal data secure and use it responsibly. This is interesting when you take into account that consumers are increasingly valuing personalisation. Over half (51%) of European respondents say they will become repeat buyers after a personalised experience. Unsurprisingly, digital natives are more influenced by personalisation, and more willing to embrace AI. Among Gen Z consumer, 33% already expect AI to be used in their interactions with brands, while 72% have been influenced to make a purchase by personalised experiences.

Marketing to Gen Z is unlike marketing to any other generation. They represent a new frontier in brand-consumer relationships—one where authenticity and relevance reign supreme. Gen Zers, born in the late 1990s to early 2000s, are both highly connected and socially conscious. As the first generation of digital natives, advertising has been an ever-present fact of their lives, making it that much easier to tune out. That’s what makes the Gen Z buyer persona so difficult to nail down. After all, how do you market to the marketing intolerant?

In the last few years, the fashion industry has experienced a remarkable transformation due to the influence of the younger generation, colloquially known as Generation Z or GenZ. These individuals, born in the mid-to-late 1990s and early 2000s, are digital natives characterized by their inclination towards personalization, self-expression, and sustainability. They seek exclusive experiences that cater to their specific needs and interests, and the fashion industry is no exception. As highlighted by a study conducted by Accenture, a notable consultancy firm, an overwhelming majority of consumers, 91%, have expressed their preference to purchase from brands that provide relevant offers and recommendations that align with their preferences.

In 2009, 20-plus start-ups, including Uber, Slack, Pinterest, WeWork, and Blue Apron, achieved $1 billion-plus valuations. Given that those companies were all venture-financed and emerged from Silicon Valley, you might assume that the key ingredients that ensured their success were cutting-edge technologies, digital platforms, and customer bases that were chiefly made up of digital natives. You would be wrong. Yes, those companies had great technologies, platforms, and demographics, but the secret of their success turns out to be much more prosaic. Each was able to satisfy real customers who needed real jobs done. In other words, they had great business models.

Last year, Elon Musk and T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert announced Coverage Above and Beyond, a joint initiative to bring Starlink satellite coverage to compatible T-Mobile phones and other devices. Less than a year later, during a panel at the Satellite Conference and Exhibition 2023, SpaceX VP Jonathan Hofeller said the company would "start getting into testing" its satellite-to-cell service this year. Hofeller didn't elaborate on which phone carriers SpaceX was working with, but the timeline certainly tallies with Musk's original vision for the T-Mobile partnership. In August, Musk said Starlink V2 would launch in 2023 and " transmit directly to mobile phones, eliminating dead zones worldwide." T-Mobile said the eventual service would give the carrier "near complete coverage" of most of the US, including National Parks and mountain ranges. And maybe that one airport terminal where I never get a signal. We can dream.

Lynk is a US company deploying an innovative satellite-based telecommunication service, by allowing mobile network operators to connect standard mobile phones via cell towers in space when they are either beyond current mobile coverage, or when the mobile network has an unplanned outage. James Alderdice, VP Asia-Pacific at Lynk, says “Lynk is building, launching, and operating a constellation of LEO satellites called “Lynk the World (USASAT-NGSO-10)”, which acts as cell towers in space and provides connectivity directly to mobile phones without any modifications to either the MNO network or customer devices. The beauty of this is its simplicity as Lynk works with all existing standard 3GPP mobile devices.”

A few dumbphones really are as dumb as pre-smartphone era models, but most make some concessions to modern tech – for example, color screens, Bluetooth for wireless headphone use, and a camera. Their low cost, as little as $40 when purchased outright, makes them extremely affordable as a secondary device, and a basic carrier plan for phone calls and texts only is similarly inexpensive.

In today's world, marketing is no longer about merely selling products; it is more about selling a brand's story and connecting with the customers on a deeper emotional level. And for many brands, a target audience would be Gen Z since people in that group are digital natives.

Today’s customers, particularly digital natives, place a high premium on an excellent customer experience. They expect personalized, timely service in the setting they find most convenient. In fact, they prize top-notch customer service so much that they are even willing to pay for it in some cases. Businesses that meet or exceed their customers’ expectations gain measurable advantages, including the chance to earn more of their customers’ business. Businesses in competitive markets—particularly verticals in which their products and services could be seen as commodities—are realizing that high-quality customer service is a powerful differentiator.

The Commission adopted a previously released notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) during the March 16 meeting, with all four commissioners voting to adopt. It deals with allowing satellite operators to get FCC authorization to operate satellites using terrestrial spectrum. The Commission is also proposing to add a mobile-satellite service allocation on some terrestrial flexible-use bands. “This would allow a satellite operator to partner with a terrestrial mobile licensee to get access to their terrestrial spectrum through a lease arrangement and modification to the satellite operator’s license. Then the satellite system can provide service directly to the subscribers of the wireless carrier in areas where the carrier lacks coverage,” FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement.
