Apprentice jockey Eswan Flores was suspended for 60 days by the California Horse Racing Board for testing positive for cocaine at Del Mar on Aug. 23.
His suspension will run from Aug. 25 to Oct. 23, 2012.

Poker advocates believe a decision by a federal judge in New York will move forward efforts toward legalizing the game.
On Tuesday Brooklyn federal Judge Jack Weinstein overturned a conviction of a New Jersey man, Lawrence DiCristina, who had been facing ten years of incarceration after being convicted of federal gambling charges related to running a high-stakes poker game in New York. Weinstein overturned the conviction, ruling that poker is a game of skill, not chance. He ruled that poker did not qualify as gambling under the federal definition of "gambling" in the federal Illegal Gambling Business Act.

The operators of Monmouth Park in Oceanport may join the state in the legal battle with major professional and college sports organizations over legalizing sports wagering.
Dennis Drazin, consultant to the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, which operates Monmouth Park, said in an interview last week the horsemen may join the defense in the lawsuit brought earlier this month over the new state law legalizing sports betting.

John H. Bassett, a past American Quarter Horse Association champion trainer and two-time winner of the sport’s premier event, the All-American Futurity, has been suspended a total of 10 years and fined $10,000 after two horses in his care tested positive for the prohibited Class 1 drug dermorphin. The drug, said to be 40 times more powerful than morphine, is widely known as frog juice because it is derived, in its natural form, from secretions of South American tree frogs

TOP jockey Danny Nikolic's career is all but over after a racing inquiry found he had made threats against Victoria's chief steward.
It is likely Nikolic will get a penalty so severe that he will never ride again.
While Nikolic may appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, he is still being investigated over race-fixing allegations.
